6 CONCLUSIONS<br />
6.1 A total of 86 <strong>incidents</strong> involving the collapse or major structural damage of the tower<br />
<strong>crane</strong> involved have been identified as taking place between 1989 and 2009.<br />
6.2 The cause or circumstances surrounding 57 of these <strong>incidents</strong> have been identified. The<br />
cause or circumstances surrounding 28 <strong>incidents</strong> have not been identified.<br />
6.3 Where the cause or circumstances surrounding the incident have been identified the<br />
dominant categories were erection/dismantling/climbing followed by extreme weather.<br />
6.4 10 of the 86 <strong>incidents</strong> took place in the U.K. The causes of these were similarly<br />
dominated by erection/dismantling/climbing and extreme weather.<br />
6.5 No particular <strong>crane</strong> manufacturer has been positively identified as being more prone to<br />
<strong>incidents</strong> than any other.<br />
