Style Magazine - June 2022

Whether it’s groovy tunes, a cold beverage, or verdant flora, we’ve got a plethora of options for you to cool down with. Just turn to this month’s “Summer Blast” feature (page 58) for all the wonderful ways to make this season memorable (and bearable), written by the ever-witty Sharon Penny. We continue keeping it cool (take a shot every time I say “cool/cold/summer!”) with Lorn Randall’s list of Light Beers on page 80 and our travel piece on State Parks (page 74) by local travel expert, Dannah Nielsen. If you’re ready for some action, read our publisher Terry Carroll’s piece on Pickleball (page 38), the most happening sport right now for anyone with decent hand-eye coordination. And if you just want to bum around at home, Emily Peter-Corey’s got you covered with her selection of Entertaining Essentials (page 42). We’re also shining the spotlight this month on organizations that support our LGBTQ+ population. Of course, this is in honor of pride month, but it’s also because of the chilling statistics about rising LGBTQ+ suicides in the country. This is the least we can do as a magazine to direct people—especially our LGBTQ+ youth—in the right direction. I think I’ve covered the gamut of what we have in this issue and I’m proud of all of it. We work very hard to bring you the best content every month so I hope you will take some time to flip through these pages, margarita, beer or iced tea in hand, and raise a toast with us to the best summer ever. Cheers! —Tara Mendanha tara@stylemg.com

Construction Inc.
ERIC SIMERLY
Cameron Park, 530-417-7458, @simerlyconstruction
Services or products you offer: Concrete, excavation,
grading, retaining walls, drainage, custom metal
fabrication, and more.
What you enjoy most about your profession: I love
working with my hands and, for the most part, being
outside. Beautifying my community one job at a time
is an added bonus!
Fun fact about your company: I would have never
had the courage to go out on my own if my mentor/
former employer didn’t push me out of the nest, so-tospeak.
First job: Les Schwab in Placerville.
Favorite food: My wife’s fried pork chops.
Last big purchase: A mini excavator.
When not working, you can find me: Coaching my
older son’s t-ball team, riding dirt bikes, hunting, or
fishing. I love all things outdoors.
You love living here because: I have access to outdoor
activities that I enjoy, and it’s quiet, rural, and beautiful.
Customer service is: Everything; my livelihood. My
wife has worked in customer service for over 20 years
and she always says, “People may not remember what
you say but they always remember how you make
them feel.”
Most memorable experience as an entrepreneur:
Building friendships with clients. I started my business
to provide a service—I never imaged how it would
connect me to my wonderful community.
You started your business, because: I wanted to be
my own boss and help the residents and business
owners of my community the only way I know how.
Favorite local restaurant: Wally’s Pizza Bar.
Favorite local event: The Summer Spectacular at
Cameron Park Lake.
Favorite small business (other than your own):
Foothill Ammo.
