In the 16th c<strong>en</strong>tury, as miners unearthed less and less silver, the people<br />
of the Ore Mountains had to look for other sources of income. During<br />
long winter ev<strong>en</strong>ings they had mastered the craft of making wood<strong>en</strong> toys<br />
and Christmas ornam<strong>en</strong>ts. Now they were no longer doing this just<br />
to pass the time. Smoking m<strong>en</strong>, candle arches, Christmas pyramids:<br />
Artful contemporary witnesses of the craft tradition come to life at Scharf<strong>en</strong>stein<br />
Castle. With its Christmas and Toy Museum, the almost<br />
800-year-old fortress has a unique treasure trove of folk art objects from<br />
the <strong>en</strong>tire Ore Mountains region.<br />
There is an abundance of opportunities to marvel, play and try things out at<br />
the family castle: Regularly changing hands-on exhibitions, spooky highlights<br />
such as the »Ghost Haunting« and a medieval village in the former<br />
castle gard<strong>en</strong> are certain to make childr<strong>en</strong>’s eyes light up with delight. The<br />
more curious visitors can <strong>en</strong>joy exhibitions on Karl Stuelpner, the Robin<br />
Hood of the Ore Mountains, the history of the castle and the Scharf<strong>en</strong>stein<br />
