Mary Immaculate School Chepstow
Scott Eddyvean
Humble. A team player. Quiet. A budding leader. Enthusiastic.
Scott is a student who recognizes the joy of making the assist, rather than
getting the goal. The reason, ―I just want to see them get a shot!‖ This
year, Scott ran for his classroom council and won as the Sports and Leisure
representative. He puts forth a solid effort to the Junior/Intermediate
divisional activities at Mary Immaculate School. In the classroom and out,
Scott is a student who perseveres over challenging tasks and takes to heart what is said to
him.
As a means to share what Scott emits from himself, here are a few words from Mother
Teresa:
―Be the living expression of God’s kindness—kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes,
kindness in your smile . . . ―
I applaud you and thank you, Scott, for bringing this to Mary Immaculate Community School
each and every day.
Shayla MacLennan
Shayla MacLennan is a student that has grown into herself as a person over
the course of the past few years.
When she entered the Junior Division at Mary Immaculate, she was unsure of
herself, who she was and what she was willing to do that would make her
stand out from her classmates. That uncertain girl has grown into a
confident, strong-minded individual who will speak out, who will choose to
stand out to be herself and let others be themselves. She demonstrates a
willingness to put herself at risk, especially for others that need support.
Shayla is confident in her ideas and her sense of right and wrong. She will speak up for
others, when they seem alone. She will ensure that classmates are not left out. She
consistently works to improve the morale of others and the sense of spirit in the class and
school. Because of her maturity and strong sense of self she has become a determined
leader. She projects a positive image of self that others can emulate. She is well-liked by all
ages in the school, as well as the adults that work at Mary Immaculate. She is someone who
is sought out for assistance. Shayla welcomes any opportunity to help others and grow more
as an individual.
When asked who deserves this award, Shayla’s name came to mind without hesitation as
someone who is silently applauded every day for her accepting, positive attitude as well as
her strength as a leader and demonstration of understanding and empathy
towards others.

St. Peter’s & St. Paul’s School Durham
.Maddie Bluhm
Maddie is truly a quiet star. She consistently gives her best effort, whether
it be with academics, sports or relationships with her peers. Maddie has a
very strong work ethic, listening carefully to all instructions and seeking
clarification when needed. She focuses on the positive and displays quiet
leadership and teamwork skills. Maddie consistently makes good choices,
but maintains a modest demeanor and does not actively seek recognition.
She is a sincere student. Maddie takes responsibility for her actions but
consistently works to display the virtues of deep caring in all of her interactions and
activities. Maddie is a positive, understated influence in the classroom, consistent in her
efforts, her attitude and her behaviour. She is a reliable friend, always offering patience,
understanding and kindness. St. Peter and St. Paul’s School is blessed to have her
walking our halls, working to let the same character be in her, that was in Christ Jesus.
Austyn Squires
Austyn is a man of energy and action. He is a dedicated student who has
given endless time and effort to the ―Me to We‖ initiative as well as to the
regular classroom activities. He consistently demonstrates a positive
attitude and consistently puts forth his best work. Austyn has a way of
interjecting humour into every day and is able to add sunshine wherever he
goes with his contagious smile. Austyn eagerly offers assistance when
ever it is needed, whether it be for his classroom teacher, a peer or any
staff member. He freely offers ideas and is a true team player. Austyn is modest about
his accomplishments and is accepting of everyone he meets. He continually works to
display the virtues of deep caring in his interactions and is a dependable, reliable friend.
Austyn seeks out ways to help others, stopping to assist a younger student, or picking up
something in the hall to save our custodian some time. He is supportive of everyone’s
efforts and exudes a quiet patience and understanding with all. Austyn is a true blessing
to St. Peter and St. Paul’s School and exemplifies the unsung hero, whose presence
impacts us all in a positive way. Austyn makes ongoing contributions to the entire
community of our school.
You are the light of the world...No one after lighting a lamp
puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand and
it gives light to all in the house...Let your light shine before
others, so that they may see your good works and give
glory to your Father in Heaven.
~ Mt. 5.14

his positive attitude, responsible work ethic and sense of humour. He demonstrates a strong
Melena is a kind, caring, quiet Grade 5 student at Holy Family School. In speaking with
her teachers, past and present, Melena is a student who is consistent in her efforts,
attitude and behaviour. She perseveres with her academic work. Melena strives to do her
best regardless of the subject or its level of difficulty.
Melena is faithful to her daily tasks of helping out during the lunch hour in the Grade One
classroom. She hands out milk, pizzas, subs, opens up containers and helps students
clean up spills. Melena tends to tidy up the classroom after everyone is finished eating. As the teacher who is
on the receiving end of her generosity and helping hand, I am most appreciative of her thoughtful gestures.
Melena keeps everyone on their toes when it comes to bus time at the end of the day. She is responsible for
calling buses as they arrive at our school. Melena’s announcements keep our procedures organized and
trouble free.
More than anything, I would like to recognize Melena’s nurturing quality and dedication to her younger brother
Simon. Simply put, she loves Simon and does not hesitate to show it on a daily basis. In her very quiet and
humble manner, Melena shows her love and patience playing, working and talking with him. Simon is very
lucky to have an older sister who looks out for him. Holy Family School is fortunate to have Melena as one of
St. Mary’s High School Owen Sound
Damien Besito
Damien was born on October 31,1993. He started St. Joseph’s Catholic
School in 1996 and like some other kids he was nervous. He was part of
the soccer team and the hand ball team in gr 3. He wasn’t sure what
choir was so he tried that out in gr 4 and quit days later because he didn’t
like singing. In fact, the only singer in Damien’s family is the old Singer
sewing machine that’s collecting dust. Damien started at St Mary’s High
School in September 2007 and was part of the concert band and track
and field that year. He was on the honor roll list for first semester with no
marks under 78%. This past year Damien participated in the James Bartleman aboriginal
creative writing contest. Even though he did not win, he did a great job on his essay.
Because of his hard work and dedication, Damien was asked to join SAC last year and is
helping at Relay for Life again this year. He will also be graduating this year and sees this as
a huge accomplishment. After High school Damien is thinking of taking an apprenticeship in
Carpentry. The staff at St. Mary’s High School describes Damien as a quiet kid with a BIG
heart. He quietly goes about serving others and expects nothing in return. It was noted, that
at school dances, Damien is willing to roll up his sleeves and get the job done. The staff
would like to thank Damien for all his hard work and dedication to St. Mary’s High School.
Laurissa Christie
Laurissa graduated from St. Mary’s High School as an Ontario Scholar,
Student Letter recipient, and the Lieutenant Governor’s Award winner for
community involvement. She has returned this year for a cooperative
placement with the Ministry of the Environment and to peer tutor a grade
