Hidria BH is a sales & distribution centre of Hidria Corporation,
since 1999 successfully active in Sarajevo in Bosnia & Herzegovina.
At the beginning the company was selling the products by IMP
Klima, today it extended its sales programme to the products by
Hidria Perles. More about Hidria BH in the interview with its
Managing Director, Mrs. Dijana Kozadra on page 2.
This year, the companies belonging to Hidria Corporation
underwent reconstruction and refurbishment of their
exterior and interior. This vast project focused on Hidria's
corporate image will continue also in the next few months.
More about it on page 7.
At the 10th Golden Drum international advertising festival,
Futura Profano agency was awarded the Silver Stick award
for the design of the Rotomatika website. More about
the renewal of websites of all Hidria companies on page 10.
Recently, the Hidria division specialized in automotive
industry conquered even the prestigious Jaguar
cars that will use plugs by AET. Page 13.
At the exhibition site of the EICMA Fair in Milano (Italy),
arranged with much innovation, Tomos put
on show twelve models, including six prototypes and four
completely new vehicles. You can see them on page 14.
Tone TomaæeviË has been employed with Hidria Perles for
more than half of his life, throughout his career focused on the
development of power tools. Under the Portrait on page 22 he
remembers the times when the staff of the R&D Department used
only a desk, a pencil and a drawing board.
Hidria BH
Hidria BH from Sarajevo in
Bosnia & Herzegovina has
been active as representative
office since 1999. A year later,
a new company was
established in Sarajevo, first
called IMP Klima Sarajevo
because it was selling
products, manufactured by the
Slovene company IMP Klima
from GodoviË. Today the
company combines the
products by two divisions -
IMP Klima and Perles - and
it scores outstanding business
results. The Managing
Director of Hidria BH, Mrs.
Dijana Kozadra, told more
about the company, its staff
and operations for the Hidria
Corporation Gazette.
You have equipped several important
buildings in Bosnia & Herzegovina
with air-conditioning, heating and
ventilating systems. Which are your
main references?
After four years of operation of the
representative office and of the
subsequent company we can boast of
numerous references. In Sarajevo we
equipped the Unis business centre,
the Mercator shopping centre,
BoπnjaËki inπtitut, Hit Casino
Coloseum, the building of Bosnalijek,
the Robot Commerce business centre.
Furthermore, we equipped the
business centre in Tuzla, the building
of Pharmamed in Travnik as well as
many other buildings in Bosnia &
Herzegovina.
Hidria BH scores very good business
results. What in your opinion is the
reason of such success?
The decision about establishing a
company and arranging a storage in
Bosnia & Herzegovina was adopted at
the right moment, thanks to the
Management of IMP Klima. Our
success in the course of operation was
mainly due to the fact that we
constantly endeavoured to meet the
demands of project engineers and
contractors whereby we enjoyed
permanent support of IMP Klima that
secured high quality products, correct
prices, consultancy services and
respect of delivery terms. Every year
we participate at the Interklima Fair
in the Skenderija Hall in Sarajevo
and we prepare a seminar for project
engineers where we try to inform them
as much as possible with our products
and novelties in the field of
2
air-conditioning, heating and
ventilating. As far as contractors are
concerned, I find it the most
important that we have provided the
storage of finished products in
Sarajevo that enables them to solve
the problems in very short periods of
time.
T h i s i s . . .
Dijana Kozadra Hidria BH staff
One year after the foundation of the
company in Sarajevo, IMP Klima in
Slovenia became part of Hidria
Corporation. Thereby your company,
too, entered Hidria. How did it affect
the activity of the then IMP Klima
Sarajevo?
On the integration into Hidria
Corporation we felt slight insecurity
because we did not know exactly what
we could expect from this change and
how our activity would evolve in the
future. We had just attained the
phase when we reached quite a good
position on the market, but it was not
quite stable; therefore we were afraid
that this change could threaten its
stability. Our customers, too, asked a
lot of questions about this change, but
it helped us a lot that Tomos and
Iskra ERO, two well known
trademarks on the market of Bosnia
and Herzegovina, belong to the same
corporation.
Already a few months after joining
Hidria we noted the advantages of
being member of such a big system.
We gained much better terms and
conditions for operation with HVB
bank. We recognized that we held a
much better negotiating position as
well as that the skills and the
experiences of Hidria corporate
services could be of much help to us.
Right because being a member of
Hidria Corporation we can easily get
a much better image on the part of
our customers in Bosnia &
Herzegovina.
Recently IMP Klima Sarajevo
changed its name to Hidria BH. The
change of the name is due to the
expansion of the Company that is
going to cover several divisions. How
do you experience this change?
Last year Hidria BH moved to new premises
Adis PajtiÊ
Bosna and Hercegovina has been a
relatively small market, therefore we
managed to inform most project
engineers and contractors personally.
Moreover, we conveyed the
information on our seminars.
However, even today it sometimes
happens that we answer the phone by
saying: ≈Hidria BH speaking« and get
from the other side: ≈I beg your
pardon?« Then we have to explain:
≈IMP Klima and newly also Perles«.
Which products by Hidria companies
are you selling anew?
In addition to the products by IMP Klima,
we also sell the products by Hidria Perles
and axial fans by Rotomatika Fans.
How many people are employed in the
Company and which are their tasks?
Today Hidria BH consists of two
divisions: IMP Klima and Perles. The
Company includes four employees,
thereof three employed in IMP Klima,

Office building that houses Hidria BH
Institute in the old city centre of Sarajevo, equipped by Hidria BH
Mercator Shopping Centre in Sarajevo - one of Hidria BH reference buildings
while Edina »anËarar, our secretary,
works for both divisions. Adis PajtiÊ
has been Sales Engineer, Milan KumiÊ
acts as sales clark and storekeeper
and I am the Managing Director of the
Company and Director of IMP Klima
Division. The Perles Division was
established last March and except
Edina includes no staff in Sarajevo.
Matjaæ Frelih from Kranj is the
Director of the Division while Janez
Golob is active with customers on site.
T h i s i s . . .
How would you describe the market
of Bosnia & Herzegovina? What is the
economic situation like in your
country? In Sarajevo?
The market of Bosnia & Herzegovina
is small, but very demanding, which is
probably a normal consequence of
everything happening in the past few
years. Our economy and living in the
broadest meaning of the word are
very much burdened with the troubles
on the political level.
Unis Business Centre, equipped with IMP Klima
products
The changes promise better times,
although everything develops very
slowly, in particular for us living
here. Most investments are
concentrated in Sarajevo, the location
of the headquarters of Hidria BH,
which is normal for the capital of a
country. Already before the war this
area abounded in assemblage
activities and there is a big
concentration of the respective
technical staff. Yet the project
engineers and assembly staff from
Sarajevo often lacks work, therefore
they often undercharge their work.
How does marketing in Hidria BH
take place? Do you have more or less
permanent customers? How do you
acquire new business partners?
Air-conditioning, heating and
ventilating equipment requires
specific sale. Our target market is
relatively small, focused on fitters of
air-conditioning, heating and
ventilating equipment. These are
more or less permanent customers.
The respective delivery schedule
depends on how much work they have
and/or on the number of the
investments in the whole country.
The sales process is relatively long.
Usually it starts with the project
design. It is very important for us that
our products are included in the
project itself, for in this way it is
easier to get the whole contract.
Therefore we have to keep in constant
touch with project engineers and to
assist them from the very beginning
by providing them consultancy and
product information at fairs, seminars
and through catalogues. Often quite
some time, sometimes even a few
years, elapse from the beginning of
the project to the respective
implementation. It is important to
supply high quality equipment in due
time and to carry out the sales
activities correctly, because it may
lead to the acquisition of a new
business affair.
Last September you moved to new
business premises, whereby you
probably improved your work
conditions significantly.
We are very proud of our new offices.
We bought them after we spent three
years working in modest rented
premises. Now the working conditions
are much better and the positive
image of the company, such as
radiating from these offices, has
significantly contributed to our
success.
We would like to know how you
personally came in touch with the
Slovene IMP Klima and what did you
do before you assumed the
management of IMP Klima Sarajevo?
I came in touch with the management
of IMP Klima in a quite unusual way.
As a matter of fact, it was my
husband, the same as me a bachelor
of mechanical engineering, who was
offered this business cooperation. As
my husband assumed some other job,
we agreed that I should contact IMP
Klima. At that time I was teaching
informatics in one of Sarajevo
secondary schools. In December 1998
I went to Slovenia, I talked to the
persons in charge from IMP Klima
and I agreed to accept this challenge.
Accordingly, it happened that on 1
March 1999 both my husband and I
took up our new jobs on the same
day. Now, four years and a half later,
I am persuaded that I made a good
decision. I am very satisfied with my
work.
The majority of Hidria managers
heading the companies abroad are
Slovene people. You are originally
from Bosnia & Hercegovina. Do you
think it is an advantage?
I think it is, because I know better the
mentality of the population and the
circumstances in the country, which is
also reflected in my relations with the
customers. However, I should say that
I know a few Slovene people who are
very successful managers in Bosnia &
Herzegovina.
You regularly attend various training
courses and social meetings organized
by Hidria. What do such events mean
to you?
The training courses organized for us
by IMP Klima and recently also by
Hidria twice a year are very useful.
We work and live very fast. It is
difficult to take time for oneself when
you are in your place, in your office.
But in this way we can escape from
everything in order to spend a few
days studying, strengthening our
contacts and exchanging experiences
with our colleagues from Slovenia and
from other countries who work
abroad. I am not fond of long
business trips because I miss my
family, but I must admit that I always
look forward to these seminars.
New Management of Hidria
Perles
Goran Petek Miloπ ©turm
In accordance with its organizational
logics, Hidria Corporation abides by
its strong decentralization, although
on the level of the Corporation it
combines the substances that offer the
companies new added values. Efficient
and well organized purchasing also
significantly contributes to better
competitiveness of Hidria companies
on the demanding global markets.
Already three years ago Hidria started
its activities for joining the needs for
materials, products and services
required by several branches in their
production process. By organizing
common purchasing on the level of the
Corporation it joined its purchasing
power and accordingly secured better
relations with its suppliers. Since last
April, Common Purchasing was subject
to successful management of Mrs. Duπa
RadjenoviÊ Suπnik, M.Sc., who has
recently assumed the post of Managing
Director of Hidria Perles in Kranj, while
the management of Common Purchasing
in Hidria Corporation was entrusted to
Goran Petek who used to be responsible
for strategic alliances in the management
of Hidria Corporation. In addition to
the Common Purchasing, Goran Petek
is also heading the project on the
foundation and registration of
subsidiaries of Invalids' Company in
4
S t u f f s a n d C a r e e r s
Hidria Perles from Kranj has
received new management. The
present Managing Director, Mr.
Andrej BoæiË, was replaced at this
post by Mrs. Duπa RadjenoviÊ Suπnik,
M.Sc, beforehand acting as Director
of Common Purchasing in Hidria.
The Management of Hidria
Corporation decided to replace the
Management in one of the key Hidria
companies in agreement with the
present Managing Director who used
to head the company for the last two
years.
Hidria Established a New
Electronics Division
Hidria Corporation. Recently Hidria
organized on the level of the Corporation
a new Electronics & Strategic Projects
Sector that will be headed by Mr. Miloπ
©turm, hitherto Director of Air-
Conditioning, Heating and Ventilating.
Hidria adopted such decision due to the
strategic importance of electronics. As
a matter of fact, we have been well
aware that the demand for enviromentfriendly
and user-friendly products
requires wide application of electronics
in almost all industrial activities. In
order to preserve the competitiveness
of Hidria trademarks on the global
market, our products, too, will have to
be refined by integration of electronics.
Hidria will avail of perfect possibilities
for the R&D activity in its Electronics
R&D and Technological Centre in
Tolmin, beside the Air-Conditioning,
Heating and Ventilating R&D and
Technological Centre in GodoviË already
the second such centre on the level of
the Corporation. In addition to
Electronics, Miloπ ©turm will also head
strategic and other projects concerning
industrial property protection (patents,
trademarks) and will coordinate
activities for acquisition of resources
from national and EU funds that
Grozd KGH Cluster and Automotive
Cluster have also applied for.
Urπka Svetlik
Business Development in Hidria
President of HT USA
Urπka Svetlik was born in Ljubljana
on 8 September 1974. In 1993 she
completed her studies at the Jurij
Vega Grammar School in Idrija and in
2000 she took her Bachelor's Degree
at Marymount Manhattan College in
New York, U.S.A., in Business
Management, section: Finance. Upon
her graduation she got employed with
Aktiva MAI in Ljubljana, acting as
advisor in M&A and/or company
takeovers and investment counseling.
In October 2001, she started working
in Hidria Corporation, focused on
company takeovers and controlling in
Alcan Tomos. Since May 2003 she is
in charge of business development and
management of comopanies abroad.
In September 2003, she took up the
position of President of HT USA.
Alenka LiËen
Head of Marketing in Hidria Perles
Alenka LiËen was born in Ljubljana
on 10 December 1968. She studied at
the Faculty of Economics and
Business Administration in Maribor,
section: International Economic
Relations and graduated therefrom in
1994. During her studies and
thereafter she pursued advance
training abroad, in Japan, in Rome in
London and in India where she
worked for Ogilvy & Mather
American advertising agency. She
passed her probation period in the
Marketing department of Kompas
Holidays tourist agency. She liked
marketing, therefore she got her first
employment in international
marketing of the Pro ars Vivendi
trademark. As due to the troubles in
the Editorial Board of the Ars Vivendi
magazine the Pro ars Vivendi project
was stopped, she decided to accept a
new challenge in Emona Obala Koper
where she was in charge of sales and
marketing of four trademarks. Her
career continued in the well-known
Slovene company Elan whre she
stayed for two years. She has been
employed with Hidria Perles as Head
of Marketing since last July. Her main
challenge, based on her cooperation
with sales staff at home and abroad, is
to make the Perles trademark
recognizable worldwide and to
reposition the Iskra Ero trademark.
Katja Bajec Felc
Head of IT in Rotomatika
Katja Bajec Felc was born in
Ljubljana on 29 October 1972. She
atttended elementary school in »rni
Vrh above Idrija. After her
baccalaureate at the Idrija Grammar
School she continued her studies at
the Faculty of Economics where she
graduated in Marketing in 1996. In
the same year she got employed with
Rotomatika, first in Production
Logistics - Planning and thereafter in
Purchase Logistics of the then
Foundry profit centre.
In 2000, she was appointed Head of
the BaaN Introduction Project
focused on Hidria companies located
in Spodnja Idrija. The project was
successfully completed after about
nine months. Followed the
optimization period that is still in
progress.
In three years she got birth to two
sons. Beside her work and family she
is very active in the field of music.
She conducts two choirs and regularly
plays the organ in the local church.
She got her musical education in the
Organ School in Ljubljana and
through regular advance training on
various seminars. She has little free
time, at the moment she and her
husband are building a house, but
nevertheless she manages to spend
some time on excursions and other
free-time activities.
This year she became Head of IT in
Rotomatika. Katja Bajec Felc has
been the key expert for the BaaN

information system and also
participates at the introduction of this
system in other Hidria companies.
She finds it a challenge because it is a
dynamic job that requires constant
pursuit of current trends and quick
reaction to any changes. She believes
that good corporate climate - created,
however, by individuals - is the
prerequisite for efficient performance
irrespective of the branch.
Peter MiheliË
Head of Supply Chain Planning in
Hidria Perles
Peter MiheliË, 29, from Ljubljana,
assumed the management of entire
logistics and planning at the beginning
of last June. His main objective was to
set a model supply chain covering the
processes from the supplier to the
customer, including the defining of
key indicators of success of the whole
supply chain (availability of semimanufactures,
stocks, flow times,
availability of products, reliability of
supplies) and activities leading to
implementation of the objectives
involved in the respective key
indicators of success. Beforehand he
spent more than two years with
Danfoss Trata. There he occupied a
similar post and managed to shorten
the flow times, to increase reliability
and availability of products as well as
to secure other optimisations in the
remote heating chain. He started his
career as Head of the Project and
Promotion Advisor with Nektar d.o.o.
from Ljubljana. He is a Bachelor of
Economics, graduated from the
Faculty of Economics in Ljubljana. In
his free time he likes cycling and from
time to time he affords himself a trip
into the mountains.
S t u f f s a n d C a r e e r s
Marko Svetina, M.Sc.
Head of Perles Division in HT USA
Marko Svetina, born in Ljubljana on
13 November 1975, became Head of
the Perles Division in the U.S.A. at
the beginning of last June. Two years
before he was employed with the
parent company Hidria perles, first in
marketing, until he subsequently
assumed a sales management position.
This year, when the network of sales
companies and divisions of Hidria
Perles abroad started to expand very
fast, he accepted the challenge of
establishing, management and control
of Perles Division in the largest and
the most competitive market in the
world. He is a Master of Economics,
specialized in marketing, but he also
acquired knowledge in banking during
his Finance & Banking course at the
Faculty of Economics in Ljubljana.
His first employment with LIP Bled,
where he used to act as Assistant
Marketing Director for one year,
significantly influenced his decision to
continue his studies in marketing. He
prefers to spend his free time in the
company of his one year old son
Benjamin. Often he also goes for a
ride on his mountain bike.
Ante Mimica
Head of Perles Division in Hidria
Dalmacija
Ante Mimica was born in Split on 30
August 1956. He is a graduated
mechanical engineer. He attended
Secondary Technical School and the
Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in
Split. In 1980 he got employed in
Dalmacija Dugi Rat where he
participated in various projects with
companies from Slovenia, among them
also with the then Iskra ERO (today
Hidria Perles). He acted as Head of
Assemblage and in the development of
new products, after 1991 he started
working in the newly established sales
service of power tools by Iskra ERO
and SKIL on the territories of Croatia
and Bosnia & Herzegovina. In 1996,
there was established
Dalmacija Iskra with 42 employees
where he assumed the task of
Commercial Director. The above
company manufactured parts of angle
grinders for the then Iskra ERO and
as the main and the sole importer
promoted and sold the whole sales
program of Iskra ERO tools. The
company won the leading position in
the sale of power tools in Croatia.
Now, when Hidria Perles created a
separate division operating under
Hidria Dalmacija, Ante Mimica
assumed the managing position in the
above division. He is accompanied by
his colleagues - the commercialists
with whom he successfully cooperated
in Dalmacija Iskra in the last eight
years. Ante Mimica is persuaded that
in spite of the growing competition
their efficient team will manage to
preserve their leading position in the
sale of power tools in their country.
Boπtjan Podobnik
Managing Director of Rotos and
A Visit to Hidria by the
Ministress of Economic
Affairs
At the beginning of last September,
the Ministress of Economic Affairs,
Dr. Tea Petrin, accompanied by the
State Secretaries, Mrs. Mateja Meπl
and Mr. Janez TrËek paid a visit to
Hidria. The Hidria Management
introduced their high guests to the
Air-Conditioning, Heating and
Ventilating Division and to the
Automotive Industry Division, where
the Corporation has achieved
outstanding results on the worldwide
level and envisages enormous
possibilities for development. With
reference to Hidria plans, the sales of
air-conditioning, heating and
ventilating systems, last year
amounting to SIT 10 billion, will grow
to SIT 24.5 billion in the next five
years, while the sales by the
Automotive Industry Division, last
year amounting to SIT 3 billion, are
supposed to grow to as much as SIT
12 billion in the five years to come.
In the future, both divisions will have
even more possibility for demanding
development tasks in two Hidria
development & technological centres:
Institute for Air-Conditioning,
6
Heating and Ventilating and
Electronics Development Centre, that
have already started their activities.
Upon an introduction to Hidria at
Kenda Manor in Spodnja Idrija as
well as after visiting the production
halls in IMP Klima, a Hidria
company, from GodoviË, Dr. Tea
Petrin, the Ministress of Economic
Affairs, labelled the objectives of
Hidria Corporation as very
ambitious. In her opinion, the State is
not only obliged to solve the problems
arising on the economic level, but also
to stimulate efficient companies that
make investments into high technology
and development, which is a
prerequisite for preservation and
growth of competitiveness. As in the
future, too, the State will promote the
development of excellence centres and
of development & technological
centres, the Ministress promised that
Hidria may expect some participation
of the Ministry of Economic Affairs at
the development of the Institute for
Air-Conditioning, Heating and
Ventilating and of the Electronics
Development Centre.
Institute for
Air-Conditioning, Heating
and Ventilating
Since January this year, the
Institute for Air-Conditioning,
Heating and Ventilating employs
seven experts. The construction of a
new Institute building, located next
to the IMP Klima building in
GodoviË will start next spring, on
the basis of the already acquired
building licence. There will be
arranged fifteen modern
laboratories that will provide for
development of air-conditioning,
heating and ventilating on the
national level. Moreover, it will
offer excellent development
possibilities in compliance with the
methods applied by the Ministry of
Economic Affairs of the Republic of
Slovenia to both Hidria companies
and to the companies belonging to
the Slovene KGH Cluster as well as
to other Slovene and foreign
companies and institutions. The
development & technological centre
in GodoviË will be arranged
according to the principles applied
in similar West European centres
The electronics development & technological centre operates in the new AET hall
The core of the new Electronics
Development Centre consists of a
team of nine experts that have
already started their activity. Its
own research & technological centre
located in Tolmin will enable the
Corporation in the future to offer to
its customers, in addition to
individual products for automotive
industry, complex
The construction of the new premises of the Institute
for Air-Conditioning, Heating and Ventilating will start
next spring.
and will constitute the only such
centre in this part of Europe.
Threrefore, on a long-term scale, it
will also cooperate with the
neighbouring countries. Already
during the construction of the new
building it will participate at
international invitations to bid.
Moreover, it expects about 40% of
EU funds required for the
equipment of the above
laboratories.
Electronics Development
Centre
electronic systems and sub-systems.
In the new development &
technological centre the experts will
not only develop the electronics for
the AET production programme,
but also the electronics applicable to
the control of power tools by Hidria
Perles and of electric motors by
Rotomatika.

AET Successful at the Public Invitation by the Ministry
of Economic Affairs
Last March, the Ministry of Economic
Affairs published the public invitation
concerning the allocation of
development incentives for
technological investments in 2003 and
2004. 169 applications were filed by
the specified deadline. In 2003 and
2004, the Ministry is going to co-finance
23 technological investment projects,
selected with reference to the evaluation
by external experts and with reference
to the compliance of applications with
the scope of the above public invitation.
The Ceramics profit centre of AET
has submitted the application for the
project: ≈Development of Products
Requiring High Rate of Mechanical
Treatment on the Basis of Innovative
and Environment Friendly
Technological Process Applicable to
the Production of a Ceramic Suspension
for Low-Pressure Injection Molding.√
As the project was very well accepted
by external appraisers, the Ministry is
going to grant SIT 59 milllion in support
of the project and the respective
implementation of the objectives in
the next two years.
The above project is focused on that
part of the production that is essential
for the development and the quality of
the most marketable products of highquality
injection-molded ceramics.
The project includes the activities that
will lead to the completion of the
development process and to the start
of an innovative and environment
friendly technological procedure
applied in the production of ceramics.
It will provide for better production
stability and will introduce a new,
significantly shorter technological
process as well as better quality of
products. Through further development
of new technologies and by mastering
technologically demanding products,
AET will significantly improve its
competitiveness in aluminate ceramics
products. An essential part of the
project activities will be dedicated to
the implementation of the many years
long efforts by the R&D Department
New Looks of Hidria Companies
In the last few months Hidria
companies refurbished both
the exterior and the interior of
their buildings. This vast
project will continue for the
next few months.
IMP Klima - refurbished and
enlarged its premises
Last August, IMP Klima progressively
moved into its new production halls
and offices, obtained through an
enlargement of the existing building.
The new premises include: the
toolshop (400m 2 ), the offices (497m 2 )
and the high-shelves storage (927m 2 )
that involved the highest investment.
The new offices have a separate
entrance in compliance with the
Hidria corporate image, recognizable
at a long distance from the Ljubljana-
Idrija motorway. The interior, too, is
arranged in the colours of the
Corporation.
On the ground floor, there are
Quality, R&D and IT Services,
Finance & Accounting and Personnel
Departments share the first floor, the
floor above houses Project Design,
Engineering, Servicing and the
conference room.
The greatest changes occurred on the
transfer of the Finance & Accounting
and Personnel Departments that used
to be located in Idrija from the very
beginning of IMP Klima. However,
the common location will bridge many
communication problems. Moreover,
the servicemen form TKR, who used
to work in Idrija, also settled in
GodoviË.
of AET Tolmin and by the Ceramics
Department of Joæef Stefan Institute
(IJS) in the development of a new
ceramic material and of the technological
process applicable to the production
of the ceramic suspension for lowpressure
injection-molding that will
contain only 10 weight per cent of
organic binding agents. In addition to
the significant shortening of the
preparatory procedure, lower input
material cost and lower power
consumption, the introduction of the
new ceramic material is also supposed
to improve significantly the properties
of ceramic products. Reduction of
linear strain, narrower tolerance
range, higher green strength, less
probability of structural faults and
lower scrap rate - these are properties
of the new ceramics that will contribute
to the quality assurance of more
sophisticated products. In the second
part of the project, the above
advantages of the new ceramic material
will be applied on the products that
New toolshop in IMP Klima
require high mechanical strength and
resistance to chemicals and that in the
form of different mechanical
components (shaft, bearing, piston,
sliding ring, gasket etc.) make part of
centrifugal and high-pressure pumps,
fuel pumps, sanitary appliances etc.
Mastering of the above products
requires from the company to adjust
to a new, more demanding level of
activity that involves considerably
higher dimension and quality
standards and by five to ten times
smaller tolerance extents than in the
existing products. AET anticipates
that, subject to the implementation of
the clearly set objectives under the
technical ceramics project, they will
achieve an EUR 6.1 million turnover
by the year-end 2007, which will
involve a 90% growth with reference
to the year 2002. The sales volume of
the respective products will amount to
EUR 1.2 million at the year-end 2007,
thus covering as much as 20% of the
total sales.
The new storage offers many
advantages
The IMP Klima storage is daily filled
with standard products that will
significantly relieve the manufacture.
There are forty different groups of
products in approximately twelve
sizes that can be combined to the
extent that the customer may choose
different combinations of masks,
housings, attachments etc. The most
recent acquisition, at the moment still
in the process of introduction,
involves the bar code marking of
products. The advantages of the bar
code system lie in the strict
traceability of he product from the
initial proceeding to the dispatch of
the product, in accurateness of the
operation that reduces the possibility
of in-process faults as well as in
monitoring of the stock. The
proceeding enabling the introduction
of the so-called storage sales of
finished products will not only help
the eight-member staff of the
Dispatch, but also the Logistics &
Sales. It has turned out in practice
that at reconstruction of minor
buildings the respective fitters daily
require two or three airing grids or
valves, but this need arises as late as
on the site. This type of sale differs
from the usual order for
reconstruction or construction of
bigger buildings that is based on a list
7

of products drawn up by the project
designer. There the contractors or
engineering companies selected by the
investor place their orders by phases.
The usual delivery terms are three
weeks. The sale of products from the
stock will not reduce the advantage of
IMP Klima in terms of adjustment to
the customer's special requirements
but right the opposite. Moreover, with
their prompt and high quality
deliveries of standard products they
will even gain the customers' favour.
Rotomatika continued improving
its looks
During the summer Rotomatika
continued the works leading to neat
exterior looks. After a few months
earlier it wrapped its high-shelve
storage in silver aluminum and
mounted the big blue Hidria and
Rotomatika logotypes, it also changed
the colour of its office building that
turned ochre. The window-frames
were painted as well. Moreover, they
provided for new parking places on
the left bank of Kanomljica, arranged
the access road to the buildings and
outlined new green plots lined with
hedges.
8
F r o m t h e A c t i v i t y o f t h e C o r p o r a t i o n
These efforts for neat looks have
not remained unnoticed, for on
the occasion of this year's World
Day of Tourism, the Municipality
of Idrija and the Local Tourist
Organization granted to Hidria a
prize for the neatest industrial
building, delivered on completion
of the campaign under the motto:
≈Municipality of Idrija - Neat and
Hospitable«, such as running
annually under the ≈My country -
Neat and Hospitable« project by
the Tourist Union of Slovenia.
AET has paid more attention to
infrastructure
Beside the investments into
technology, in the last few years AET
has made plenty investments into
infrastructure. In 2002, they
completed the construction of a new
hall, now occupied by almost the
whole manufacture of magneto
igniters and by the respective
administration. Accordingly, the
Diesel product line got more space in
the old hall.
Due to such transfers and constant
enlargements of production halls, the
old premises, too, required
renovation. It started immediately
upon the completion of construction
works in the new hall at the beginning
of this year. In the manufacturing
part of the hall, renovation works
have been in progress, including
arrangement of the storage and
laboratories, replacement of old doors
with roll-up doors, laying of epoxy
pavement and whitewashing of walls
as well as installation of the airconditioning
system. The Toolshop
and the Ceramics are also under
refurbishment, among others they
replaced the old asbestos roofing and
installed roll-up doors in order to
insulate the room that houses the
ceramics trimming furnace.
The employees of AET admit that
thanks to the works done as well as
planned for the next few years their
working places are getting more and
more pleasant.
Reconstruction of the Hidria
Perles office building
During the summer, Hidria Perles
adjusted its marking system to the
Hidria corporate image. Moreover,
they provided a new entrance into the
company's office building, a modern
demonstration center and, which is
the most conspicuous, a new office
building facade with Hidria and
Hidria Perles
logotypes.
In the future, power tools bearing the
trademark Iskra ERO and Perles of
Switzerland will also be on sale in the
new shop located in Hidria Perles
premises in Kranj. More about it will
be published in the next issue of the
Hidria Corporation Gazette.
Start of renovation works in
Tomos
Tomos has completed extremely
demanding demolition works on the
production hall that suffered from
fire on the last New Year's Eve. At the
same time it started the
reconstruction of the production. The
damaged segment in contact with the
building will undergo renovation and
the entire production hall, form now
on covering a surface of 25,000
square meters, will undergo complete
restoration. In accordance with the
Hidria corporate image they will
replace pavements, ceilings and
installations.

Excellence in Hidria Corporation
The staff of Hidria is well aware that
business excellence is the key of
success of both the Corporation and its
companies. On these grounds they
endevour to pursue it as a common
guidance in all companies and in all
activities. Therefore Mr. Frane Koren,
in charge of excellence in AET, talked
on this subject at the regular summer
meeting of managing staffs from Hidria
companies.
As he stressed, business excellence in
the broadest sense of the word,
consists of two layers shown below:
The business excellence of Corporation
has been confirmed by the following
Iskra ERO
Turned to
Hidria Perles
One of the key companies of Hidria
Corporation, engaged in manufacture,
marketing and servicing of power tools,
changed its name from Iskra ERO to
Hidria Perles. The change of its name is
a logical continuation of the attachment
to the Swiss tradition and of the
adherence to Hidria international
corporation. As a matter of fact, Perles
of Switzerland is one of the two
trademarks (the second being Iskra
ERO) used by the company for
marketing its products. The renowned
Swiss trademark with a long tradition,
rooted in 1936, has been its 100%
ownership since the year 2000. The
company has been marketing its
products under the Perles of
Switzerland trademark through its
international network of Hidria sales
& distribution centres, in particular
in Ecuador, where the power tools are
also manufactured, in Switzerland, in
Poland, in the USA, in Great Britain,
in Colombia, in Bosnia &
Herzegovina and in Serbia.
international standards: ISO 9001,
ISO 14001, VDA 6.1, ISO/TS 16949,
already acquired by Hidria companies.
The above standards specify the basic
requirements for efficient corporate
management system. Moreover, Hidria
companies have already introduced or
are in process of introducing the WCP
(world class performance) elements.
These are, for instance, small teams
endeavouring to improve the
motivation and the communication
between the employees. Such teams
achieve their objective through
introduction of numerous simple
methods of efficient performance, such
as: constant improvement, organizing,
cleaning and visualization of the
working place, TPM - preventive
maintenance, useful proposals etc.
In the last few years, the automotive
industry has been progressively
introducing the Lean 6 Sigma business
strategy.
Lean is the pure western parallel of
key models conceived in Japan and 6
Sigma is the business strategy involving
focusing and/or improvement of
business processes whereby the
company adds value for the customer.
The method is based on intensive
application of statistical methods.
On the top of the pyramid, there is
the EFQM model of business
excellence that indicates the method
adopted by the company for a
thorough SWOT analysis of
company operations that in turn
constitutes the foundation for the
annual preparation process
concerning the five years' strategic
business plan.
ISO/TS 16949 awarded to AET
AET, the leading Hidria company
within Automotive Industry
Division, has improved its key and
auxiliary business processes in
accordance with the ISO/TS 16949
technical specification. The
efficiency of the management system
of AET Tolmin d.o.o. was approved
last June and at the beginning of
September the Diesel Profit Centre
already got entered into the IATF
(International Automotive Task Force)
register as the holder of the ISO/TS
16949 automotive industry certificate.
Audits in Tomos
Last September and October could be
referred to as the months of audits in
Tomos. In October, SIQ audited the
quality system according to the new
standard ISO 9001:2000 and checked
the implementation of the ISO 14001
environmental system. The Tomos staff
is proud that this year, too, the
auditors noted evident progress in the
arrangement of the production and
praised the development and the
operation of the management systems.
They completed the audit without
recognizing any discrepancies. This
year the quality of internal audits also
scored some improvement: as many as
30% of all measures taken after the
audit included recommendations for
improvement, simplifications and
increased efficiency of processes. For
the year to come Tomos has set as its
objective to establish a quality
management system in accordance with
ISO TS 16949.
Before SIQ, Tomos also underwent
auditing by its strategic customers Ikea
and BMW. Ikea audited Tomos
according to its IWAY environmental
and work conditions systems.
According to a new feature of the
standard, system operation is no more
subject to annual audits; moreover,
every visit by the customers'
representatives involves checking of
the fulfilled of requirements. Every
detected non-compliance shall be
remedied within 90 days.
Followed the audit of the logistic
process. BMW was checking the
customers' orders control process and
the entire material operations on the
basis of its own system called LOPA.
They were checking three operation
areas: the BMW - Tomos relation,
Tomos - internally and Tomos -
suppliers.
Rotos and Rovent Now One Company
As already reported in the preceding
issue of Hidria Corporation Gazette,
last year in autumn IMP Klima
assumed the management of the newly
established group of Hidria companies.
The joint activity of the IMP Klima
Group and the efficient teams already
bring positive effects, also in terms of
business results.
The greatest advantages of the Group
lie in the respective experiences,
knowledge and managing capacities
for efficient management and control
of companies as well as in effective
teams concerned with marketing,
sales, production, technology,
mechanical engineering, tool
manufacture, purchasing and quality
control. IMP Klima Group includes:
IMP Klima GodoviË as umbrella
company, Rotos, Rovent and TKR as
manufacturing and/or service
companies, along with the sales &
distribution centres in Bosnia &
Herzegovina, Poland, Portugal and
Serbia.
In view of optimization of business
processes and assurance of optimum
business results of the Group and of
particular companies, IMP Klima
started to merge two Idrija
manufacturing companies, Rotos and
Rovent, which will provide for greater
organizational, personnel and
business synergies.
The newly established company -
combining several production
programmes: fans as the long-term
priority program at the Idrija location
as well as industrial doors, technical
acoustics along with industrial
products and components - has
significantly improved its business
results already in the process of
merger, which, however, proves that
the respective business decision was
correct. The organization, the
regulation of the management and
control system and the optimization of
all operating processes were the first
tasks of the Managing Director,
Boπtjan Podobnik, who took up the
management of the Idrija company
last spring.
in charge of IT a year ago have been
implemented, although a lot still
remains to be done. The transition to
the new Exchange communication
system has been completed for Hidria
Perles, IMP Klima and Rotomatika
Groups. Hidria Dalmacija runs a new
MS Windows information
environment. Group video conference
systems have been mounted in all
companies. We have reached the final
phase of the construction of a
corporate telecommunication system.
In November, the installation of
Microsoft Windows and Exchange
environments will be completed in
Hidria Trading, where the ZZIecl
system for preparation and filing of
customs declarations, common to all
major companies within the system, is
already subject to trial run. Tomos is
approaching the end of the bar code
introduction project, recently they
also introduced the Centrex fixed
telephone system that will
considerably cut the costs, in
particular those of calls into GSM
networks.
Right at this point we can mention the
planned future activities. We are
going to analyze the international
telephone costs and subsequently
decide for an alternative international
IP provider. In the field of mobile
telephony it is only a matter of a few
weeks that Mobitel is going to launch
the third generation of UMTS systems
that will provide for much faster data
transmission and even for video
Nokia 6650 UMTS handy
conferences via cellular phones.
Regarding the information system it
has been envisaged that the companies
abroad will share a uniform
information system that will among
others allow for uniform reporting.
According to a long-term plan,
throughout 2004 the companies
abroad will be connected under a
common communication network.
Rotomatika is undergoing the first
electronic data exchange project
(EDI) via the BizTalk server that will
allow for semi-automatic data
exchange between the information
systems of Rotomatika and
Grundfos, its partner. On this
location there will also be
mounted a presence and access
control system. IMP Klima is
among others concerned with the
informatization of the new shelves
storage, AET Tolmin is preparing
an application for evaluation of
suppliers and Hidria Perles is
trying to achieve the optimization
of the BaaN system.
Golden Drum Award for Rotomatika
Websites
At the latest 10 th international
advertising festival referred to as
Golden Drum, held in Portoroæ,
Futura Profano Agency was granted
the Silver Stick Award for designing
the websites of Rotomatika.
In the category of websites, the Silver
Stick Award is a big recognition for
the websites of Rotomatika and other
companies that will assume a uniform
layout. At this year's Golden Drum
Competition it was awarded under the
keen competition of the most
successful advertising projects from
over 30 countries.
www.hidria.si
Hidria has been well aware of the
importance and power of the
communication that is getting more
and more fast in the period of
globalization, marked with the
application of information
technologies. Considering the fact that
Hidria has been marketing its
production programmes on all
continents, it is of vital importance
for the success of its operation that its
business partners from any part of
the world can regularly and easily
monitor the activity in the
Corporation or can make their first
contacts with any of Hidria
companies. It is equally important
that the information is accessible by
all 2,500 employees in 30 Hidria
companies all over the world. Hidria
avails of new websites in Slovene and
English that secure fast flow of
information.
The websites provide plenty
information intended for the
employees of Hidria companies. In
addition to the news from the activity
of the Corporation, there one can get
the data on all Hidria companies
worldwide, the information on the
operations of the Corporation and its
companies, photographs of various
events, a list of fairs with the
participation of our companies etc. In
addition to the topics under constant
amendment, the websites show the
vision and the strategy of Hidria, give
brief historical highlights, describe its
R&D activity, excellence and
environmental approach, trademarks,
business divisions and the like.
Moreover, the Corporation uses its
websites for regular informing pupils,
students and other jobseekers about
the possibilities of employment or
scholarships.
Hidria amended its websites in
cooperation with its business
partners: Menea acted as project
coordinator, Futura Profano
agency provided for the website
corporate image and design,
Gambit Trade was in charge of
technical tasks. The uniform
corporate image will be gradually
introduced into the websites of
all five key companies.
Rotomatika has already
completed its project, as it can be
seen at; the websites of other
companies are under preparation
and will soon be available in
their new layout and substance.

From the Activity of the Corporation B u s i n e s s P a r t n e r s
Directors of Hidria
Companies from Abroad
Will Meet Twice a Year
This summer for the first time Hidria
organized a get-together within the
scope of the ≈Let's Grow Together«
programme where it invited the
directors of Hidria companies from
abroad. This get-together is primarily
intended for training, an exchange of
opinions, experiences, ideas as well as
for solving concrete issues that may
arise in the course of everyday
activity in the companies of this
international corporation. This time
the participants came from the USA,
Switzerland, Great Britain, Bosnia &
Herzegovina, Serbia, Poland, Portugal
and the Netherlands. They discussed
corporate management, trademarks
First Get-Together of Laboratory
Staffs From Hidria Companies
At the beginning of June, laboratory
staffs from Hidria companies and/or
the employees using measuring
equipment met in Spodnja Idrija for
the first time, on the proposal of the
Tomos laboratory that already
cooperates with the Rotomatika
laboratories.
The first meeting was held in the
pleasant and hospitable environment
of Kenda Manor in Spodnja Idrija,
accordingly far away from the
laboratory ambiance, but the next
get-together is supposed to be
organized in one of the Corporation
laboratories where the participants
could get to know the skills and the
equipment used in their activities.
Their primary objective is to
cooperate and to acquire useful ideas
for improvement of laboratory work,
since they realize that all laboratories
face similar problems, both at
maintenance of the measuring
equipment and at assurance of fast
measurements. After the presentation
of laboratories, the participants
and their protection, novelties in
international trade, corporate
identity, information technologies and
the development of key personnel.
The participants of this get-together
confirmed that this event offered an
exceptional opportunity for exchange
of experiences among the managers
who are active in different countries
and often lack possibilities to meet. In
the future, there will be more
opportunity for such exchange of
opinions, for Hidria is going to invite
its directors from abroad to similar
get-togethers twice a year - before
summer holidays and before
Christmas.
listened to the interesting lecture by
Ljubo Likar from the Rotomatika
Electric Laboratory who resumed
metrological notions from the field of
electrical engineering and pointed out
to the serious problems arising due to
the constant customers' pressure
concerning the duration of the
measurements.
Tomaæ Bajuk, independent counsel
for accreditation of laboratories with
Quality Centre from Ljubljana, gave a
lecture with the title ≈General
Requirements for the Qualification of
Test and Calibration Laboratories« in
which he talked about the SIST EN
ISO/IEC 17025 standard and informed
the audience about the respective
standard specifications. At the meeting,
the laboratory staffs approached a
few common topics concerning
laboratory organization, the position
of laboratories in companies, ordering
measurements and cost estimates of
measurements. On next meetings they
are going to discuss the above topics
in further detail.
Distinguished Visitors
From France Air
At the beginning of July, IMP Klima
hosted Mr. Oliver Dolbeau, president
and co-owner of France Air, and Mr.
Jean Philippe Margrita, Director of
Central Purchasing. The scope of this
distinguished visit was to remember
the tenth anniversary of cooperation
between IMP Klima and Air France as
well as to set future objectives of a
long-term cooperation. Both
distinguished guests were also received
by Mr. Edvard Svetlik, President of
Hidria Corporation, who invited them
to Kenda Manor in Spodnja Idrija.
France Air Group is the largest French
trading company in the field of airconditioning,
heating and ventilating
equipment, at the domestic market
holding a 35% share in airconditioning
and 25% in ventilation.
Its annual purchasing exceeds EUR
60 million, thereof 40% at home, 40%
in the neighbouring countries and
20% in other countries, including
Slovenia.
In 2003, IMP Klima is going to supply
to France Aira quantity of products
worth approximately one million
euros, which makes the French
company one of the biggest IMP Klima
customers. For the time being they
supply to France Air eight products,
three being in the process of acquisition.
In the future, fan wheels form Rovent
may also be interesting for France Air.
IMP Klima, supported by both guests,
has set as its goal to increase its
turnover with France Air to approx.
three million euros by the year-end
2008.
Now our Products Mounted
Also in Renault Scenic Cars
NSK, a Japanese corporation
manufacturing steering-wheel
mechanisms in addition to bearings
for all types of applications, has been
one of the target customers of Hidria
Automotive Industry Division. NSK
manufactures and supplies both
standard mechanical steering-wheel
mechanisms, steering-wheel rods of
any type and EPAS steering-wheel
mechanisms subject to electric
control. This is its strongest point, for
it offers to its customers a more
powerful product of identical gauge.
Rotomatika and NSK, located in
Japan, in the USA and in Europe, will
cooperate at the Renault Scenic
project. Rotomatika will supply
aluminum alloy components for the
steering-wheel mechanism of the
above car. Accordingly, from the very
beginning, experts from Rotomatika
cooperated with NSK at the
development, optimization and search
for optimum technological solutions.
They took it as a particular challenge
and devoted thereto in the field of
sales, development and technology.
Their approach, technological
solutions and proposals as well as
competitive prices due to the
respective production technologies
were decisive for the final selection of
supplier in the Renault Scenic
project.
Rotomatika and Hidria
Perles for Grundfos
For several years, Rotomatika and
Grundfos, a corporation specialized
in the manufacture of pumps, have
been engaged in successful cooperation
focused at the development of
laminations and rotors for electric
motors, such as contained in every
pump. Their development and
technology strive for constant
optimization, cost reduction and
integral solutions. Last year Rotomatika
and Grundfos started working at the
rotor & shaft project.
Rotomatika Motors Successfully Pursuing its Goal
Motor for condensation drying machine
Gorenje
This year, the achievements by
Rotomatika Motors in the
development activity and acquisition
of new customers turned out very
inspiring. Upon successful
development of the electric motor for
the new generation of the
condensation drying machine for
Gorenje from Velenje, the two
companies recently discuss the
development of a motor for a
Manufacture of a semi-manufactured shaft on the CNC
lathe
Laser meter for shaft and rotor diameters
condensation drying machine that still
has to undergo the life test and
various other tests. Series deliveries
of motors for the above condensation
drying machine has been scheduled
for the beginning of next year.
Rotomatika anticipates that all recent
models of Gorenje drying machines
will contain Rotomatika motors.
Rotomatika Motors won this project
in the competition with the renowned
European manufacturer of motors for
household appliances.
Gorenje require for their products
high utilization rate motors that
guarantee less energy consumption.
However, Rotomatika managed to
develop a motor with the utilization
rate exceeding the competition by
11% at 160W output power for the
right sense of rotation and by 8.3%
for the left sense of rotation. The
electric power consumption is 0.44kW
per drying session, which is by
0.05kW less than the competitive
motor (0,49kW). Good cooperation
and partners' relationship between
Gorenje and Rotomatika in the past
In the past Rotomatika used to supply
to Grundfos only the aluminum sealed
rotor package that the Danish
corporation used to send to its subsuppliers
who impressed the shaft,
worked it together with the rotor and
sent it back to Grundfos. Yet, the
proceeding was not very economical,
either in terms of costs or with
reference to delivery terms. Therefore
Rotomatika set as its goal to offer to
its strategic business partner the
manufacture of a complete rotor with
shaft, which it managed to achieve in
cooperation with Hidria Perles, its
sister company. Recently, Hidria
Perles acquired additional high-tech
machinery for the manufacture of
shafts and the respective
measurements.
Accordingly, upon the phase
dedicated to sampling and approval,
in the first half of this year, the two
companies successfully produced and
sent the ordered samples to Grundfos,
subsequently manufactured and
supplied trial series of all rotor models
and in turn got confirmations of
regular orders whereof the supplies
will start towards the end of the year.
The Grundfors project is an important
recognition for both Hidria companies
as well as a proof that in the future,
too, it is worth while using every
possibility of cooperation between the
companies, if this can lead to new and
more remunerative business affairs.
constituted an additional reason for
conclusion of the agreement.
Danfoss Maneurop
It was already in 1999 that
Rotomatika developed and supplied
the first electric motors for Danfoss
Maneurop, a French manufacturer of
hermetic compressors, ranking among
the top European manufacturers of
compressors for air-conditioning and
cooling industries. As a result of such
successful cooperation, the
Purchasing Director of Maneurop,
Mr. Christophe Gillon, and the
Managing Director of Rotomatika
Motors, Mr. Emil Sirovina, signed
another three years' contract on the
occasion of the Hannover Fair
IKK2003, in the presence of the highest
representatives of both companies.
Moreover, Rotomatika was invited to
participate at the development of such
electronically switched motor that
would secure optimum motor and
compressor operation in spite of
changeable conditions. Discussions on
Hidria and Telekom
provided for ADSL in
Spodnja Idrija
In cooperation with its business
partner Telekom Slovenije, Hidria
tries to provide for faster
development and for introduction of
modern digital telecommunications in
its companies and in the respective
environments. Accordingly, the
inhabitants and the legal persons
located in Spodnja Idrija have got fast
access to Internet, referred to as
ADSL.
Within the ADSL introduction
project, Rotomatika replaced the
more expensive hired line with a
faster link, thereby entering the
virtual private network (VPN) of
Hidria Corporation. In the future, an
optical data line enabling telephone
connections and access to Internet will
also extend as far as to Kenda Manor.
Moreover, there is under construction
an optical link from Hotedræica to
GodoviË, the location of IMP Klima,
and further down to Idrija, whereby
in the future Idrija will have another
data link with Ljubljana. For the time
being the connection can only be
established through Nova Gorica.
Furthermore, in cooperation with its
business partners, Hidria introduces
modern technologies into its
companies, it also provides for faster
development in the respective places
this project will be started in November.
Besides, Maneurop is very important
for Rotomatika and its die-casting
product line, including the development
and the sale of aluminum components
and efficient expansion of operations
with Maneurop. Recently they also
developed a few new products
(compressor parts), which proves the
company's growing penetration among
top manufacturers of aluminum
components in Europe. Furthermore,
there are good prospects for the external
rotor fans product line because
Maneurop uses a large number of axial
fans for its own production of
condensation units. The partners
agreed to enter into concrete
discussions at the beginning of 2004.
Exemplary cooperation in the fields of
development and technology, the fact
to be able to offer to Maneurop a wide
range of products and implementation
of the business excellence policy of
Rotomatika companies guarantee
long-term cooperation that both
partners share as a common interest
and objective.
and thereby builds a positive attitude
to the environment. Thus for several
months the inhabitants of Spodnja
Idrija can decide for entering the
ADSL system that opens efficient,
reliable and safe paths to the world of
interactive multimedia and fast data
transmission. It provides for fast and
permanently accessible Internet, work
at home or virtual office, on special
demand acceptance of substances
from servers, remote training or
interconnection of branch offices.
Different ADSL packages are adjusted
to operation of companies and to
individuals. Students can buy such
packages at particularly reasonable
prices.

Tomos Trademark in Every
Home
This year, Tomos has been facing a big
challenge - redefinition of its focus and
its development orientation. As derived
from modern experiences that
refocusing can be carried out the most
efficiently by redefining the
trademark, the managing team of
Tomos along with Pristop agency
decided for a professional and creative
approach to the design and handling
the respective trademark.
The process is based on the proceeding
that derives the essential features of
the trademark from inside the
company without any external
pressure. First they determined the
essence of the Tomos trademark that
reflects its light-weight, strength and
flexibility, the respective benefits,
advantages and personality, as well as
its value, its vision of the future and its
mission. All these elements are now
becoming a clear-cut guidance for all
employees at their daily work and
decisions, at the same time determining
the principles for the appearance of
the Tomos trademark on the market.
The trademark creation process itself
requires coordination of the managing
team on the strategic goals, motivation
of all participants and directing of all
powers to a common goal. Likewise, it
sets clear guidelines for long-term and
short-term operations
as well as the standards
for daily decisions.
The explicit redefining
of the trademark is
reflected in the new
presentation of the
trademark with
reference to the
market, in the
possibilities of
spreading the
respective product mix
or in the production of
new products. Moreover, the
redefining of the trademark involves a
closer and above all a more dynamic
interconnection of all processes that
influence the trademark. In the end,
however, the trademark building
process shall result in a better Tomos
position on the market and in turn in
better financial results.
Now Tomos is entering a second phase
when the trademark will increasingly
spread from the managing sphere,
through the respective processes and
through its physical manifestatons, to
the veins of the entire company.
Accordingly, the second phase will be
primarily dedicated to motivation
workshops, to the establishment of an
internal communication system along
with some outlines of external
communication, as well as to the
integration of the trademark into the
company business processes. In the
end the Management and the
employees will not only understand,
but also implement the promise of this
trademark and the respective values.
The whole staff will understand how
their activity and responsibility
contribute to the fulfillment of the
promise that the trademark has made
to the customers.
Diesel Product Line by AET
Now Also in the
Prestigious Jaguars
There is an interesting news coming
from AET: the new Jaguar model will
contain AET glow plugs designed for
heating the cooling liquid. The Diesel
product line by AET has already been
introduced into cars of the most world
renowned makes, but Jaguar is among
the most prestigious cars to contain
their plugs.
The information on the supply of the
above products for Jaguar cars again
reveals the broad expansion of Diesel
International Registration of the Rotomatika Trademark
Last October, Rotomatika received
from the World International
Property Protection Organization in
Geneva (WIPO) the Certificate No.
809 631 that protects the Rotomatika
trademark. The trademark protection
procedure started in the Industrial
Property Protection Office of the
Republic of Slovenia already in 2002.
The registration on the national level
was teh prerequisite for the
international application filed this
year in May.
The above registration of industrial
property is valid in 35 countries all
over the world and protects all
engines. As a matter of fact, the joint
development of PSA and Ford
corporations has led to a new family
of Diesel engines for the above
prestigious car make. It means that in
Europe Porsche is the only one to use
exclusively gasoline engines. Even
Japanese and Korean cars appeared
on the market with Diesel engines.
products on sale under the
Rotomatika trademark. The
protection of industrial property
through the trademark is highly
important and absolutely necessary
for Rotomatika because it prevents
from the theft of industrial property.
The regulation of this subject, that is
a matter of routine for European
companies, will contribute to the
affirmation and distinction of the
Rotomatika trademark, thus even
strengthening its position in the
business world.
Novelties from Tomos
Youngster - a pleasant
refreshment!
Our Italian naighbours and other
visitors did not hide their enthusiasm
for the very attractive "Youngster",
exhibited by Tomos on the
international two-wheels fair in
Milano. Everybody imagined it on a
14
T r a d e m a r k s a n d P r o d u c t s
ride through the crowds of the town,
or mounted on campers; even owners
of sailing boats agreed that the
Youngster would also be suitable on
board. However, one cannot overlook
that the Youngster is related to the
Flexer, and it is provided with very
attractive accessories, such as the
front that announces a new trend.
According to our expectations it will
be available in shops next spring!
Pack'r - a multi-purpose vehicle
The idea to produce a multi-purpose
vehicle has matured for quite some
time. Finally we got Pac'r. It is
suitable for delivery boys of any kind,
if fitted with appropriate cases even
for pizza deliverers. The young would
use it for going to school. Its simple
and functional design persuaded us.
Tomos at the EICMA Milano 2003 Two-Wheels Fair
Mid September Tomos successfully
presented its latest models at EICMA
Milano 2003 two-wheels fair. EICMA
fair, alternately organized in Munich
and Milan, is the most important fair
of two-wheels manufacturers,
therefore Tomos prepared for it very
well.
On their stall, arranged with great
feeling for innovation, they exhibited
twelve models, whereof six prototypes
and four completely new vehicles:
Qrios, Pack'R, Youngst'R and MC 50
Senior Pro. Furthermore, they put on
show the improved A5 engine, built as
prototype into three vehicles: Revival,
Revival TS and Streetmate. The
engine meets the EURO 2 standards
on exhaust gases and noise and has by
approximately 50% higher power
than the existing engine. Therefore it
is particularly important for
industrial application of the vehicles
into which it was integrated because
they are also appropriate for two
persons.
The preparation of exhibits for the
EICMA fair started at the beginning
of July and reached its acme a few
weeks before the fair. Two weeks
before the fair, the development and
sales team, in addition to the
preparation of other models, started
manufacturing another two
prototypes.
Both vehicles first appeared as ideas
of Tomos experts, were subsequently
transferred into a hard copy and
eventually started to assume their
proper form in the prototype
workshop. In order to achieve their
goal, all members of the above team
even renounced to their free time in
the afternoon, on Saturdays and
Sundays and they really made a good
job.
The fair really exceeded all
expectations. The new two-wheels
continue the tradition of the trademark,
yet by pursuing the global trends
through new design and ideas that
attracted the attention of journalists,
importers, dealers and end-buyers
who crowded the exhibition site.
As the fair offers a good opportunity
for making new acquaintances and
business affairs, they also exhibited
the Tomos two-wheels components.
Moreover, Tomos shared its exhibition
site with AET Tolmin, its sister
company.

New Products and Technical Improvements in Doors
Product Line
This year Rotos again started its
active marketing of industrial
automatic doors, a product line that
in the eighties of previous century
helped the company to assume a
leading position in Slovenia.
In cooperation with the German
Efalex, the largest manufacturer of
fast-gliding doors in the world, they
developed an automatic,
pneumatically driven fast-folding door
from aluminum and PVC. Moreover,
they conceived the first indoor PVC
roller shutter door. The above
automatic door types, along with the
earlier swinging PVC door and the
iron outdoor folding door, used to
constitute the production programme
of the then company.
Throughout the last decade Rotos
manufactured all the above door
types according to the demand, but
this year it decided for several
improvements, based on a Slovene
market research. They provided the
electromagnetic drive for the fastgliding
aluminum door of HP-AL
type, a new PVC roller shutter door
of HDR-PVC type and they provided
for rationalization of the existing door
types.
T r a d e m a r k s a n d P r o d u c t s
HP-AL
The electro-pneumatically driven fastgliding
aluminum door is suitable for
mounting into outdoor walls of
buildings. In the past it turned out
that this type of drive did not meet all
requirements: at low temperatures the
condensate in the compressed air got
frozen and prevented the door from
operation. In order to avoid the above
troubles, they developed and
produced the electromagnetic drive
this year. The electromagnetic drive is
mounted in the cabinet above the
door and serves for opening the door
panels through a reducer. Customers
could for the first time examine the
electromagnetic drive of the automatic
folding door at this year's MOS fair in
Celje.
HDR-PVC - light-weight
The automatic fast-lift PVC roller
shutter door is a completely new
product, intended for indoor
mounting on separation walls. This
very interesting door is a roller
shutter door of PVC or linen, wound
on an axle that is in turn driven via a
chain drive by an electromotor with
reducer. This automatic door has
already been exhibited on various
fairs in Belgrade, Sarajevo and Celje.
NV-PVC
The hand-operated PVC swinging
door underwent modernization in
2003. The welded iron structure was
replaced by a new one where all iron
parts can be fixed by screws. They
examined all older door types and
made appropriate simplifications and
unifications. Furthermore, they
replaced the screws and adjusted
certain parts to the existing
technology.
New Fans on the Idrija Location
Radial wheel for professional kitchens
This year the development activities
concerning fan wheels from the Idrija
companies Rotos and Rovent focused
on three product groups: small radial
wheels, big centrifugal wheels and
roof fans.
In the field of small centrifugal
Climmy Compact - Ceiling Cassette Unit
Climmy Comapact is a new product
from the IMP Klima production
programme. Climmy Compact or
≈ceiling cassette unit« is a type of fan
convector designed for heating,
ventilating and air-conditioning of
premises (offices, restaurants, shops,
galleries etc.). The first demand for
this product has come from France.
Due to the rich experiences of IMP
Klima experts in energetics,
wheels, they continued the
improvements of the high pressure
wheel for oil burners and produced a
new fan system prototype, for the
time being still under testing.
According to their forecasts for the
next year, the fan will achieve such
the ceiling cassette unit was developed
in an extremely short period of time.
IMP Klima is among the first
manufacturers to offer this product
on the domestic and foreign markets.
The Climmy Compact ceiling cassette
may be used for two-pipe and fourpipe
central heating systems, based on
water, yet including an electric
heating option. It achieves up to 5 kW
of cooling power and up to 13 kW of
quality to be suitable for small series
production and subsequently for large
series production as well as for the
development of a full range of sizes.
Regarding small fans it is worth while
mentioning a new flat blade fan type
from stainless sheet metal that has
heating power. It is fitted with a
three-speed fan that sucks air from
the room through the perforated part
of the front plate and conducts it
through the heat exchanger.
Thereafter the cooled down or the
heated air is brought into the room
through the slots on the front plate,
provided with adjustable cylindrical
elements. Additionally it is possible to
mount a condensate pump.
The main advantages of Climmy
Confort to the traditional ceiling
convectors are:
- Easier and cheaper mounting and
maintenance, because all servicing
can be done from the room,
- No additional air supply elements
required, because the air is
introduced through the front plate
of the product,
- Different front plates allow for a
wide range of air supply types (in
different directions and at different
angles).
already passed the first tests on the
market and got excellent evaluations.
In the field of big centrifugal wheels,
the Idrija company prepared and
tested quite a number of samples of
the existing products that have
undergone minor changes, based on
the customer's demands. Moreover,
the joint applicative development of
the wheel for a combined oven,
achieved with its business partner
Electrolux, is considered to be one of
their major successes. In spite of the
fact that the basic development was
carried out at the Triest university,
there still remained a lot of open
questions in connection with the
production as well as with the
solutions in the field of individual
components. At present they run a
small-series production, but they
expect to launch a successful series
production next year.
Besides, this year was a turning point
for roof ventilators, because they
launched a first couple of fans
developed in cooperation with IMP
Klima as a result of an advance
cooperation with Vortice, its business
partner. They expect that next year
their products will be subject to
testing according to new European
standards.
Climmy Confort shall be built directly
into the suspended ceiling. The shape
of the diffuser and the height of the
housing are adjusted to different
types and sizes of suspended ceilings.
The unit is manufactured in four
sizes, with two housing heights, with
four different masks and with
different control thermostats.
The technical characteristics were
taken in the Cetiat laboratory in Lyon
in France, while in terms of SIQ IMP
Klima acquired the EMC
(electromagnetic compatibility)
certificate and the evidence that the
product meets the safety standards.
Thereby they comply with the terms
and conditions for marking the
product with CE.

Recently Issued Tomos
Gazette
In September, Tomos published the
first issue of the Informator (the
Informer), its internal gazette that
will be published periodically in order
to inform the staff on the happenings
in the company, on their common
objectives and on the company
operation. Beside the foreword by
Mr. Renato Krajnc, Managing
Director, the first issue focuses on the
operation of all three Tomos business
units: two-wheels, furniture and
components, on the first ordinary
internal audit completed last June, on
the positive attitude to the
environment, such as encouraged by
granting awards to the neatest
department of the company.
Furthermore, the Informator informs
the employees of the safety at work,
the Personnel Department reports on
the voluntary pension scheme and on
sick leaves; there are also congratulations
to those celebrating their jubilees.
The IT Department has prepared for
the first issue of the above gazette a
few interesting instructions for
application of Microsoft Excel.
Thus Tomos joined the other key
Hidria companies that already
publish their gazettes: AET publishes
the AET Novice (the AET News), Hidria
Perles - the Mojster (the Master),
Rotomatika - the Modro (the Blue), IMP
Klima - the Partner that is primarily
intended for their business partners.
Seminar for project engineers.
At the beginning of last year IMP
Klima started its business cooperation
with Azija Import from Kazakhstan.
In spite of its small size, Azija Import
- that employs only six people - has
been very successful in the sales of
IMP Klima equipment for different
purposes on the markets of
Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. They
excel for their highly professional and
systematic approach. Due to the
promising market, last September
IMP Klima joined Azija Import at the
KazBuild fair in Almaty where at the
beginning of last november it also
organized three seminars with
participation of the following
lecturers: Mrs. Belova Elena
Mihajlovna, senior lecturer at the Air-
Conditioning, Heating and Ventilating
Chair of the Moscow National
Construction University, and Mr.
Matjaæ Bajc, Head of the Moscow
IMP Klima Technical Office. Besides,
the presence of Mr. Marjan BrenËiË,
Sales Manager for East Europe and
former USSR countries, also
contributed to the importance of this
event. The seminars in Astana Hotel
gathered 52 project engineers who
were very satisfied with the lectures
and with the practical presentation of
the equipment selection and
calculation programme. Moreover, 80
students of higher forms and
professors of the Air-Conditioning,
Heating and Ventilating Chair of the
Kazakhstan Principal Architecture &
Construction Academy could attend a
seminar in their lecture room which
they filled up completely. Due to
permanent lack of modern technical
literature and due to complete
absence of practical training at the
Academy they attended the seminar
with great interest.
Prestigious Designer's
BaaN 5 Information System Also in Hidria Perles
The beginning of June represented a
significant turning-point for Hidria
Perles that submitted all its
operations to the new BAAN ERP
information system. In Hidria
Corporation, BaaN has already been
used in Hidria Trading, HT USA, in
companies from Rotomatika Group,
as well as in Rovent and Tomos.
With the introduction of the above
system Hidria Perles also changed the
organizational structure of the whole
company. The established three new
business units: PE1 - Production of
Components, PE2 - Motor Production
and Assembling and P3 - Agencies,
Additional Purchase, Post-Sales
Activities and Retail Sale. The
operations of each unit are handled
separately. In addition to the above
business unites, there is also PE9 -
Services & Administration,
From the left to the right: Primoæ Golob, Project Engineer, Tine Vadnal, Project Engineer and Head of Project Design, Engineering and Service, Damjan Zajc, Project Engineer and
Head of the Supplementary Sales Programme, and Damjan Makuc, Project Engineer and Head of the Wolf - klimati programme.
functioning as service for the first
three business units.
Now, on completion of the project, the
company admits that it was worth
while vesting ten months of efforts
into the project. Actually, numerous
improvements of processes and final
reports have already been evident
everywhere.
The key staff members who
participated at the introduction of the
new system were awarded with a three
days' trip to London.
Project Design, Engineering and Service in IMP Klima
In the last few years, already during
the independence of Slovenia, the
circumstances on the market changed
considerably and required from the
companies not only reorganization,
but also an expanded product mix,
such as dictated by the competition.
Very soon the manufacturer ceased to
be only manufacturer but rather
engaged in custom design, counseling,
trade and marketing. Companies had
to invest into the so-called know-how
and in parallel developed their
servicing activity.
Accordingly, in the last few years, the
activity of IMP Klima also had to
adapt to the growing needs for
technical consultancy to project
engineers, purchasers and/or
investors, to contractors as well as to
the respective end-users.
On these grounds, two years ago, they
employed additional experts who
helped advising the purchasers and
the contractors at their selection and
calculation of system solutions in airconditioning.
For urgency reasons,
such technical consultancy even
expanded. Today the company
includes an expert team of four
project engineers. Very soon another
two engineers will join this team in
order to cover the field of automation.
The advantage of the project team lies
in its integral approach to customers
and/or to the project. It involves a
direct contact with the investor, the
search for a mutual agreement on the
technological ground-plan, the
presentation of the possible solutions,
a joint selection of the optimum
solution, the presentation of the
solution, the elaboration of the
projects, the execution of works, the
commissioning of the building and of
the system as well as the assumption
of responsibility for the maintenance
and the servicing of the entire system.
A key role is also conferred to the
service that acts as authorized service
of IMP Klima and Rotos.
By entering with the existing and the
potential buyers into annual agreements
on the maintenance of air-conditioning
equipment and industrial doors, IMP
Klima would like to secure smooth
operation of the equipment and
through high quality servicing they
would like to provide for faultless
operation of the whole system.

Rotomatika Modernized its
Die-Casting Technology
Due to its intensive and successful
growth, in particular in the field of
components for automotive industry,
the Die-Casting business unit within
Rotomatika set itself the goal to
modernize and to optimize the
workplaces in the production part of
mechanical treatment.
An important step forward was made
on the transfer of die-casting
machinery into a new production hall.
Nowadays the manufacture of rotors
and aluminum components is spread
in two modern halls, while the
mechanical treatment machines are
gathered in the refurbished halls,
formerly used for die-casting
procedures. On the spots previously
occupied by the die-casting machines
and the furnace, they repaired the
floor and changed the structure of the
hall. By separating the two different
technologies they reduced the effects
(in particular the thermal radiation of
the font and the vibrations of the diecasting
machinery).
The new investments have
significantly improved the capacities,
the quality and the flexibility.
In the academic year 2002/2003, AET
for the first time granted the so-called
≈combined scholarship«, based on a
joint invitation with PosoËje
Development Centre. One half of the
combined scholarship is sponsored by
the company that is interested in
employing such students; the other half
is covered from the development scheme
funds. This year, AET granted seven
such scholarships to students of
Mechanical Engineering and Electrical
Engineering. The granting of the above
scholarships has been based on the
PosoËje Development Fostering
Programme, adopted by the
Government of the Republic of
Slovenia. On these grounds, this year
PosoËje Development Centre along
with the Agency of the Republic of
specified several measures, including
granting of scholarships for the studies
leading to at least the qualification level
Transfer of Aluminum
Working from Hidria Perles
to Iskra ISD
Hidria Perles pursues the long-term
Hidria strategy, focused on the key
programmes, technologies and
markets. Accordingly, the company
decided for the so-called aluminum
out-sourcing project. Since last
September Hidria Perles has been
buying finished aluminum parts for
direct mounting. Iskra ISD d.d. was
both independent scholarships and
combined scholarships granted in
cooperation with commercial companies.
The scholarships are granted to those
students who decide for undergraduate
or for post-graduate studies at home or
abroad and who, after finishing their
studies, intend to take up an
employment or to get self-employed in
the PosoËje region, as well as whose
studies lead to the acquisition of a scarce
and/or prospective profession. This
year the total sum available to such
students amounts to SIT 14 million.
AET has been granting scholarships
for several years, at the moment 16 to
university students and 8 to secondary
school students. These are
predominantly young people who
decided to study at the Faculty of
Mechanical Engineering, Electrical
Engineering or Chemistry as well as for
attending Secondary Technical School.
In this way the company acquires new
staff, in particular those with scarce
occupations.
International Sales
Conference in IMP Klima
Mid July IMP Klima from GodoviË
hosted a two days' sales conference
with the company representatives
from abroad. It was the fourth such
conference, since July 2001 called
twice a year. The participants of this
conference included representatives of
Hidria BH from Bosnia &
Herzegovina, of Hidria Beograd from
Serbia, of Hidria Poljska, of KEIO
from Portugal and of the Technical
Office from Moscow. On the first day
the parent company mand an
introduction to the novelties (new
products, product selection software).
The second day was dedicated to the
sales conference (survey of operations
by individual companies and/or
divisions and assignment of tasks and
of the respective action plan by the
year-end 2003).
its most favourable conditions.
Moreover, Hidria Perles arranged
with Iskra ISD d.d. for the transfer of
fifteen employees, for the sale of its
business premises as well as for the
lease of machinery and equipment. A
part of the production of aluminum
parts was taken over by Rotomatika.
Invited on Board of Laho Boat
On the occasion of this year's regular
summer meeting of company
managements in Koper, the President
of Hidria and the Managing Director
of Tomos invited the managing staffs
of Hidria companies from the country
opportunity for key persons of the
Corporation from different parts of
the world to invigorate their mutual
contacts.
On the first Saturday in July, Hidria
organized its traditional Summer
Games in Spodnja Idrija. This event,
intended for all employees of Hidria
companies, their families and for all
local people, started with the opening
of tennis courts and beach volley
grounds in the sports park of Spodnja
Idrija. This is another of the series of
acquisitions in the place where in the
last decades Hidria and Rotomatika
try to improve the quality of living of
the inhabitants of Spodnja Idrija.
All day long, sports competitions
between sports teams composed of all
Hidria employees and their family
members took place on both new
facilities as well as on other locations.
In the final classification of results of
this year's Summer Games, the team
It has become traditional that on
the first Sunday in February, the
slopes of the Cerkno Skiing Centre
attract the employees of Hidria
companies and their family
members. The same will happen
next year, on the occasion of the 5 th
Hidria Winter Games 2004. The
competitions, the entertainment
programme and the meeting of
friends and acquaintances remained
a nice memory for a record number
of last year's participants - there
gathered as many as 1,700 people
Hidria Team Won the Franja Marathon Cup
Hidria cycling team won the Franja Marathon Cup as
the largest team.
On the day following the Hidria
Summer Games the Hidria cycling
team won the Franja Marathon Cup
as the largest team. As this year the
employees of Hidria companies for the
first time participated in the
marathon as a single team, they were
so much more proud of their success.
The large number of cyclists that
made the 150 km long race of the
place, the team of AET Tolmin came
out second, the Hidria team came out
third, followed the teams of IMP
Klima, Hidria Perles and Tomos.
Moreover, these Summer Games
offered a lot of entertainment to
children who enjoyed participating in
creative artistic and sports workshops
and in various sports competitions.
The most skillful ones, assisted by
governesses from Spodnja Idrija,
tried their hands at producing small
decorative and useful objects.
At the lottery the participants could
win the prizes sponsored by Kenda
Manor, the power tools by Hidria
Perles and the first prize - the Tomos
winning post, which was more than
enough for winning the Big Cup for
the largest team.
This year the cyclists' response to the
Hidria's invitation for making up
their own cycling team exceeded all
expectations. Many of the participants
took part in the race for the first time
and completed it successfully. As this
joint team won the Cup already at
their first participation, they will
certainly take part in this marathon
next year as well, maybe invigorated
by some other colleagues.

Summer Meeting of
Common Purchasing
In the middle of June, the associates
of Hidria Trading - Common
Purchasing organized in Idrijska Bela
a welcome meeting for purchasing
staffs from all production companies
within Hidria Corporation. In the
nice sunny weather the deep shadow
at the Lajπt Inn offered a pleasant
ambiance for conversations between
Hidria Team Building in
Portoroæ
Last spring, staff members of Hidria
attended a two-days' training course
in Portoroæ. Together with Vitalife
consulting agency they were
introduced to the principles of quality
management focused on an individual
and a group, they learned how to
detect the features of a good team,
they trained efficient approaches to
communication and solution of
conflicts.
Together with Mrs. Silva Verglas, the
Director of Vitalife, who conducted
the workshop, they learned on
concrete examples how to proceed in
G e t - t o g e t h e r s
Training Course With Ana Nuπa KneæeviË
Last November, Hidria organized in
Kenda Manor in Spodnja Idrija a
one-day training course for
associates and old
acquaintances.
Besides, the
participants
competed in two
disciplines that they
took for serious as if
they were mini
Olympic Games. In
the course of their
chat they discovered
that they made good
preparations for
Hidria Summer
Games. In bottle
tumbling Miro KorsiË from Tomos
won the first place, Darinka Levac
from Rotomatika Fans won the second
place and Martina GabrπËek from
AET won the third place. In bowling,
the AET team won before the Hidria
Trading - Imports team that ranked
second and before the Tomos team
that ranked third.
mastering daily tasks and how to meet
the fundamental needs and
expectations of associates in order to
make an efficient team.
secretaries, business secretaries and
all employed in communication. The
course was conducted by Mrs. Ana
Nuπa KneæeviË, an expert in personal
communication, motivation and
business behaviour. The participants
from AET, Alcan Tomos, Hidria,
Hidria Perles, IMP Klima,
Rotomatika, Rotos and Tomos talked
with the course leader and acquired
new skills about the force of positive
thinking in internal and external
communication. In the workshops
The Cook of the Year
Inviting to Kenda Manor
As a member of the distinguished
Relais & Chateaux international
chain of castles and manors, Kenda
Manor enjoys high reputation for its
hospitality, charm, unique features,
peace and excellent cuisine. The latter
reflects the time as well as the
authenticity of the place and its
unique tradition. The excellent tastes
indulging the guests of Kenda Manor
are, of course, the responsibility of
the staff, the spiritus movens of the
five-star hotel from Spodnja Idrija.
Winning match of tastes
Numerous domestic and foreign guests
tasting the delicious dishes recognized
they learned the rules and the
requirements of business behaviour
on such occasions as organizing a
business event, visit by business
partners, company presentation,
personal communication and
communication by phone. Although
many participants attended similar
training courses before, they gained
new skills from this meeting with Mrs.
Ana Nuπa KneæeviË as well as from
their exchange of experiences.
the respective merits to Franci Pivk,
the chief cook. Therefore it is not
surprising that this year Franci Pivk
won the highest prize at the Golden
Spoon competition: the cook's bonnet
for 2002 with blue ribbon.
In the finals that took place in
Ljubljana, the respective cooks had to
prepare the Slovene Plate. Franci
Pivk composed it of selected dishes
from the Kenda Manor menue and
served the wines from renowned
Vipava Valley vineries with it. This
time, too, the harmony of tastes
helped the cook Franci Pivk to rank
first among culinary experts. Next
year, Franci Pivk will again
participate at the Golden Spoon
competition, this time, however, as a
member of the jury.
Kenda Manor - kind to all Hidria
employees
Kenda Manor makes part of Hidria
Corporation. The staffs of thirty
Hidria companies at home and abroad
often visit Kenda Manor on the
occasion of business meetings as well
as in their free time, enjoying this
hospitality surrounded by their
families and friends and revealing teh
achievements of Hidria Corporation.
This tradition and hospitality always
persuade the employees of Hidria
companies that they keep returning
into this prominent and cozy
ambiance.
Tone TomaæeviË
- Father of R&D for Power
Tools in Kranj
Next year Tone TomaæeviË will be
sixty. He has been employed with
Hidria Perles and/or with its
predecessors for more than half of his
life. He admits to be in the Company
for two years longer than in his
marriage. He worked in the R&D
Department from the very beginning.
First he headed the R&D in the
industry of textile and shoemaking
machines, but after two years he
accepted the challenge in the
development of power tools with
Hidria Perles. He remembers that the
then Iskra included 800 employees,
thereof as many as 40 in the R&D
Department. This number is not
surprising with reference to the fact
that at that time one member of the
R&D staff hardly managed to
calculate one gear pair per day, which
today the computer program achieves
in one minute.
At that time their equipment
included: a modest desk, a drawing
pencil and a large drawing board.
Every power tool component required
a lot of drawings and calculations!
And heaps of paper! They required
much more testing to secure the grip
of all calculated and drawn parts. He
changed his post in Iskra seven times
and his supervisor eight times. He
himself used to be the Head of the
R&D Department and he admits that
he enjoyed it very much because of
good relations among the staff. In
particular in the periods of evident
rise in efficiency and quality of the
whole department.
22
When Tone TomaæeviË walks between
the shelves in the shop and sees the
products by Hidria Perles, he feels
great satisfaction and is aware of the
efforts vested in each product. He
often remembers how they
endeavoured to solve a particular
developmental challenge. He
remembers that after many days of
hard work and deep contemplation
the idea of the KB 4000 mechanism
struck his mind when skiing on Vogel.
After finishing secondary school, Tone
TomaæeviË acquired his technical
knowledge at the Faculty of
Mechanical Engineering where he also
took his bachelor's degree. His first
wish was to study physics and to get
employed with the Nuclear Institute,
but his family talked him out of this
idea under the presumption that such
job is not really good for one's health.
In 1983 he also took his master's
degree in telephony. This project
assignment, too, gave him plenty of
new knowledge, in particular with
reference to computer-aided control
and engineering.
Moreover, Tone TomaæeviË takes
power tools for his hobby. At home he
has a workshop with plenty of power
tools by Hidria Perles. He has always
used his free time very intensively.
Not only in the company of power
tools. He and his wife spend a lot of
time outdoors, in the mountains, even
rough skiing that he particularly
enjoys.
Crossing 21,300 km on the
Tomos Automatic in Two
Seasons
Let me first say a few words about
me: I am Matjaæ MegliË, I am 25 and I
come from TræiË. I have always been
interested in motorcycles. Actually, I
started my motorcyclist's career at the
age of two when my father placed me
on an old Tomos three-speed. At the
age of sixteen I took the motor driving
licence and bought a second-hand
Tomos 14M. I used it for about two
years and I still have it. Afterwards I
bought APN6, later I passed to
oldtimers. I bought an NSU-maxi and
later a Puch 250 SG.
I have been member of Oldtimers'
Section of the Automobile Society of
TræiË for five years. I like
participating in various oldtimer
shows, in 1999 I tried myself in a race
to Ljubelj on a Triumph BDG 250 H
from 1952, owned by my father.
In addition to oldtimers I am, of
course, interested in modern
motorcycles, in particular Kawasaki
ZX-12R ninja that I also intend to
buy in the near future.
And now a few words about my new
automatic. About two years ago,
precisely a day before the New Year's
Eve in 2001, I quickly decided to buy
a new Tomos moped. Therefore my
brother and I visited the dealer in
Kranj right on the next day and I
decided to buy an automatic. It was
actually on sale and I got it at a 30%
lower price. In spite of the low
temperatures I made about 30 km
already on the first day and later on I
moved around TræiË whenever the
weather was fine. Towards the spring,
In this issue of Hidria Gazette we
publish the letter by Mr. Matjaæ
MegliË who addressed to us as a
satisfied rider of his Tomos
moped. We wish Matjaæ good luck
at his rides and give him a
promotional gift by Tomos and
Hidria.
Editorial Board
when the weather grew warmer, I
made about 50 km a day. I used my
little motorcycle for everything: for
going to work, in my free time, for
going shopping etc. The year was
quickly over and when last November,
at the end of the season, I put my
motorcycle to rest, I discovered that I
had made 6,200 km, which is quite a
lot for one year.
This year, however, I more than
doubled this mileage, from February
through October I made as many as
15,100 km, which is plenty for a 50
ccm moped.
Even after these 21,300 km I do not
face any big troubles, the motor is still
perfect.
I only had to spend some money on
rear tires. I changed them five times,
occasionally I also had to replace the
ignition plugs. All preventive checking
was done by my brother who is a
motor fan. It is really incredible that
the Tomos automatic is as robust as
this. On my rides it has never let me
down and I can only confirm that
Tomos mopeds guarantee long
operation and easy maintenance.
I wish you a lot of kilometers!
