UCAR ® LATEX 163S

UCAR ® Latex 163S
UCAR ® Latex 163S is a high solids, all-acrylic binder for high-performance caulks, sealants, and
elastomeric coatings. UCAR Latex 163S combines extraordinary adhesion properties, high pigment
binding capacity, and excellent exterior durability. This unique combination of performance
properties allows the formulator to prepare ASTM C 920 compliant, class A and B sealants.
Due to the inherently high pigment binding capacity of UCAR Latex 163S, ASTM C 834 compliant
formulations are now available with pigment-to-binder ratios as high as 5:1. Even higher pigment
loading levels are being utilized in non-specification painters caulks.
UCAR Latex 163S is an enhancement of UCAR Latex 163, a standard of the sealant industry for
many years. Only the latex stabilization system has been changed. For those many formulators
already familiar with UCAR Latex 163, working with the new (and improved) UCAR Latex 163S
will be a pleasant experience. The product maintains all the properties of its predecessor, and
the enhanced pigment binding capacity can be utilized to increase profitability.
UCAR Latex 163S offers excellent cost-performance properties in elastomeric coatings designed
to protect structures from water damage. If these coatings are applied at a sufficient thickness,
they will also perform as effective gas barriers. Such coatings may be applied over any vertical
surface that does not permit water accumulation. The polymer has inherent anti-rust capabilities
that can be beneficial for coatings over ferrous surfaces.
