With the increasing demands being made upon the classroom teacher there is a 

limit to the amount of preparation an individual teacher can do for any area. The 

Language area is one of the most important and complicated to prepare for, 

making the task even more difficult. 

This series of three books present a selection of work packages incorporating a 

short story and a number of comprehension and language activities related to 

that story. They have been sequenced in level of difficulty and lend themselves to 

individual, group or whole class activities. The more able students will be capable 

of doing many activities with little direction while the teacher assists less able 

students. 

We hoped that these books will be a welcome relief to the many lower primary 

teachers who spend countless hours preparing worksheets for their students.

AT THE LAKE 

Ken and Fay went to the lake to 

see the ducks. There were lots 

of trees by the lake. The trees 

were cool and green. Fay and 

Ken saw lots of ducks and birds. 

Some of the ducks were by the 

trees. Some of them had little 

ducklings swimming with them. Fay and Ken took 

a bag of buns to feed the ducks. The ducks love 

to eat buns. 

Ken took three small boats with sails on them. He 

was going to sail his boats on the lake. Ken likes 

to see his boats sailing in the wind, going very fast. 

Fay took two balls to play with. She played by the 


lake in the shade of the trees. Fay and Ken saw 

some other children playing by the lake too.

'Oink, oink' says the mother pig.

Mother pig has six piglets. A group 

of piglets is called a litter. The piglets 

live in a sty. They like to roll and play 

in the mud. The farmer feeds the pigs every day.

The piglets run and jump in the sunshine. They dig

The Pet Rabbit

The Beach
