The New Jerusalem
David Biedenbender
Text adapted by Michael Biedenbender
Adapted from Revelation 21 (NIV)
As a bride dressed for her bridegroom
We long to see the Lord,
The Alpha and Omega,
Our shield and great reward.
Then from the angel’s trumpet
A call goes forth,
To gather all God’s children
From east, south, west, and north.
The heaven’s rent asunder
Reveal the Lamb’s high throne;
His glory blinds the angels
But it warms those called His own.
The city of God’s dwelling
Descends to kiss the earth;
Its brilliance none can fathom
And none can count its worth.
Its walls made of pure jasper,
The city of pure gold,
And gems form its foundation—
A wonder to behold.
And there within the city
Dwell the children of the Lord,
They taste of God’s own banquet
And feast on heavenly food.
Forever we behold him,
His glory is our light
Our breathless song of praises
Shall be our true delight.
All things He now makes new.
Mark every word.
All tears shall cease. He’s cut death’s cord.
He dwells with us forever more.
