Weco ® ULT Plug Valve (3-inch and larger)
The Weco ® ULT plug valve is a premium quarter-turn valve designed for a wide range of standard and
sour gas drilling, production, and well servicing applications at pressures up to 20,000 psi. The unique
ULT design allows superior sealing capabilities and provides a service life that is 2.5 times greater than
other designs while reducing maintenance costs.
Key Features
• Two-Piece Floating Plug/Stem - Proprietary floating plug and stem uniformly distribute load against the
downstream seat to improve sealability and reduce plug wear.
• Fast, Simple Field Repair – Bottom entry design provides access to all valve internals without having to
remove the operator or actuator.
• Handles Sand, Proppant, & Cement - Linear wave springs maintain contact between plug and seal
segment to prevent small proppants from entering the metal-to-metal seal area, enabling use in a broad range
of applications.
• Eliminate Body Washout, Extends Body Life – Dual seals direct flow between the seal segment and
plug to provide long, trouble free service life.
• Nickel Plated Plug – Nickel plated plug provides superior metal to metal sealing, corrosion resistance and
longevity.
Customer inspection and repair records from over 650 plug
valves were used to verify that FMC 3” ULT 150 plug valves
last 2.5 times longer than competing designs.
The rejection rate of the FMC 3” ULT plug valves was found
to be only 7%. By comparison, competing plug valves were
rejected at a rate of 16%.

2008.
• Each FMC 3” ULT150 plug valve list price is
$8,767.60.
• FMC and competitor’s valve are bought at the
same time.
• The difference in price of the FMC and competitor’s
plug valves has been ignored.
The total cost to this customer will be $876,760 in the
first year. Considering that FMC plug valves last 2.5 times
longer and require less maintenance, the customer would
need to purchase 250 of the competitor’s plug valves to
get the same life as 100 of the FMC plug valves. The actual
savings to the customer will be $1,315,140 over the life of
the valve.
