Honor Roll
of Donors
Philanthropy is a journey—one that requires passion, faith,
planning, and the belief that excellence can be achieved.
In these ways, philanthropy has much in common with
education, the journey which often precedes it. And like
education, philanthropy is an expedition in which we rarely
venture alone.
The individuals listed in the following pages have elected
to travel with Wells and with each other, bringing along
their own unique strengths. These dedicated alumnae and
friends have organized internships for students; endowed
professorships; served on Wells’ boards; provided funds for
the annual needs of the College; and much, much more.
For some, this year’s giving reflects a lifelong commitment
to Wells. Others have newly joined this community. All
have contributed in a vital way to the future and direction
of the College.
In 2007–08, individual donors contributed over 80 percent
of the gifts given to Wells for her financial needs, with
the remaining 20 percent coming from organizations like
foundations and corporations. In total, donors contributed
more than $4.24 million to Wells, including $1.34 million
in unrestricted gifts to the Annual Fund. Such investment
affirms the importance of Wells College and ensures that
future generations of students will benefit from it.
The College recognizes the commitment these exceptional
individuals have made to Wells, to each other, and to
the journeys of those yet to come. We are grateful for their
contributions, and we’re deeply honored to recognize
them here.

Giving
Leadership giving ensures that Wells can continue
to develop as an institution of vibrance, strength,
and innovation. By committing transformational
resources to the College, the members of Wells’
leadership giving circles have helped to steward
the College through its latest era of change.
Through their generosity, they continue to create
new opportunities for Wells.
While the College’s capacity to innovate is critical in today’s world, so is the capacity to hold on to what is best
in us. We thank the members of our leadership societies for allowing Wells to continue to fulfill her educational
mission: helping the Wells students of today—and tomorrow—learn to appreciate complexity and difference,

Individuals who have contributed unrestricted gifts of $5,000
or more are enrolled in the President’s Circle, a giving society
of special importance at Wells. Unrestricted giving allows the
College the most agility in meeting its ever-evolving needs.
Additionally, gifts from members of the President’s Circle
provide the cornerstone of a healthy Annual Fund, the body
of money that provides for all of Wells’ day-to-day expenses,
allowing, in turn, for the College’s endowment to sustain longterm
growth. We extend our sincere thanks to the members

“The greatness of a community,” said the activist Coretta Scott King, “is most accurately
measured by the compassionate actions of its members.” This idea is especially true for
Wells College. Our strength comes partly from the active leadership of our board and
from our professors’ unerring commitment to teaching and academic excellence; it comes
from our students, who are moved to action as they ask difficult questions of themselves,
their immediate community, and the larger world they will inherit; and our strength
comes directly from the hard work and tireless support of our alumnae/i and friends.
The women and men who volunteer on behalf of Wells represent a diverse spectrum of
skills and interests. And yet they share a singular commitment: to ensure, by example,
that Wells reaffirms its defining qualities of exceptional achievement, close relationships,
and enriching experiences.
Whether it’s the board of trustees or the admissions volunteers around the country who
spark the interest of prospective students, the members of our community who dedicate
their time and energy to sustaining the Wells experience are exemplary leaders. Their
