The main stay of the region’s hosting of
the Rugby League World Cup, Kingston Park
Stadium will host a trio of games over
consecutive weekends in the group stages.
Scotland, who may boast former Thunder
favourite Sam Luckley within the ranks,
Italy and Fiji are the sides who will duke it
out at the home of Newcastle Thunder.
After the big kick off the day prior,
Scotland v Italy gets things underway on
October 16 ahead of the Fiji v Italy clash on
Saturday October 22nd.
Fiji and Scotland meet on the evening of
Saturday October 29th in the final match
in NE13.
Tonga v Cook Islands
Riverside Stadium, October 30th.
While Tyneside kicks off Rugby League
World Cup in the north east, Middlesbrough
draws it to a close with the all-Pacific
Island clash taking place at the Riverside
Stadium.
Tonga are expected to be one of the form
teams in the competition after making it
through to the semi-finals in 2017, pushing
England all the way as Wayne Bennett’s side
advanced to the final by just two points.
Having shocked the international Rugby
League world by beating number one ranked
side Australia in 2019, they will arrive on
Teesside having faced Papua New Guinea
and Wales in their other group fixtures.
