in their most recent
National League game
and spark their season
into life following a
disappointing start...
— AFTER FLIRTING WITH
RELEGATION last season, when
they finished one place outside
the drop zone, the Shots got
off to a poor start this term with
successive defeats to Solihull
Moors and Chesterfield before
goals from Justin Amaluzor and
Ryan Glover earned them their
first points of the season with a
2-1 win at Boreham Wood.
However, hopes that they
had turned the corner were
short lived as they lost their next
three games before returning to
winning ways with a 3-1 victory at
home to the Bees.
Their two-goal hero in that
much-needed win was striker
Inih Effiong, familiar to our
fans following a loan spell at
Meadow Lane in 2021, when he

scored one goal, a penalty, in 12
appearances.
He was on target from the
spot again for his opener against
Barnet after Amaluzor was
fouled in the box. The Bees
drew level before late goals from
Effiong and Tommy Willard
secured the points.
Shots manager Mark Molesley
admitted his side went into the
Barnet game “looking for a few
feel-good moments to get our
confidence flowing again”.
He added: “There have been
parts of our game which show
we are on the right track but not
being ruthless enough in both
boxes means we haven’t got the
points on the board we deserve.
“If we show courage, desire
and aggression, and be more
clinical in the boxes, we will grow
in confidence. We are learning
some harsh lessons at the
moment but I’m sure that when
we turn things around we will
look back at this period and see it
was the making of us.”
As well as Effiong, another
familiar face in the Aldershot
squad is our midfielder Frank
Vincent, currently on a monthlong
loan at The EBB Stadium.

four games, although a clause
in his loan deal means he won’t
feature tonight. Vincent is due
to return to Meadow Lane on
26 September.
Against the Shots last season,
we emerged 3-2 winners at
Meadow Lane.
Kyle Wootton opened the
scoring but goals either side of
half-time from Corie Andrews put
the visitors ahead.
We drew level when Kyle
Cameron headed home Cal
Roberts’ corner, and Roberts
went on to score the winner.
Aldershot avenged that defeat
in the return fixture. Mikail
Ndjoli’s early goal was cancelled
out by a Roberts penalty, only for
Willard to restore the hosts’ lead
before the break, with substitute
Sinclair Armstrong adding
their third.
