Highfields Eagles under 17 championsAfter being undefeated all season, the HighfieldsEagles under 17 girls came away with thepremiership at the Toowoomba Junior RugbyLeague grand final.Up against Brothers at the Clive Berghoffer stadiumon Saturday, September 17, the Eagles werevictorious with the final scoreboard showing aconvincing win 60 to 10 win.Having played Brothers twice through the season,the Eagles knew their opponents were goingto come out with the determination needed to securea win.Within the first two minutes, Eagles powerhouserunning prop Libby Dunn crossed the line,starting off the team’s try succession.Brothers fought back to score a try but that didnot deter the Highfields Eagles.The Eagles had a lot of forward momentumlargely due to second rower Charlotte Morcomwho continued to impress both in attack and defence.Maintaining strong possession of the ball allowedHighfields star centre Reyna Core to comeaway with another hat trick of tries for the season.The Zellar sisters provided fierce defence tokeep Brothers away from the line while Katy Colliedived over the line after a sneaky pass was senther way.Player of the match was awarded to Eagles halfback Sienna Norris who herself scored a handfulof tries and kicked conversions.Coach Wayne Collie said the girls’ ability towork as a team and play for each other made themunstoppable and would go down in TJRL history.For most of the girls this was their third grandfinal win.“The bond that they have formed as a groupfrom under 14s was clearly evident on the field onthat weekend.“It’s easy to coach such a talented team.
