I, and othershave noted the uncritical repeatof claims made by New Hopeabout the ‘benefits’ of the mine.It is plain to see that there arestill those who support coal andgas mining the Darling Downs.It is also clear that as the restof the world moves away fromcoal there are a growing numberof locals who believe that theDarling Downs is for farming.They include those who liveand work the farms around theAcland mine, and those whofarm the plains currently threatenedby gas mining from PetroChina owned Arrow energy.The Linc Energy disaster andthe fact that farmers are unableto obtain insurance after frackingis proof positive of the incompatibilityof mining andfarming.
