Situated in Chaucer Road, our Junior School offers a

in a tranquil and safe location. We provide a Creative 

Curriculum, which encourages pupils to develop

Medical care 

Weekends have a more relaxed feel. Boarders can 

enjoy an early breakfast of fruit, cereal and toast, 

and a cooked brunch is served between 11am and 

12 noon before afternoon activities and a more 

formal meal in the evening. Boarders in Year 7 to 9 

complete their homework in a supported session 

on Saturday morning. 

All boarders are registered with the School Medical Officer who runs a 

weekly clinic and can treat sickness and prescribe medicines and treatment 

as necessary. We have a team of over 20 staff, including boarding staff, 

who have been trained in mental health and wellbeing support. Our School 

Nurses are available daily to assist students in our on-site Medical Centre, 

between 8.00am-4.00pm. Outside these hours our boarding staff hold firstaid 

qualifications and are trained to administer medication. Emergencies are 

treated at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, a centre of excellence. 

Keeping in touch 

We encourage boarders to stay in close contact 

with family and friends. Building a partnership 

with parents is crucial to us and boarding staff are 

regularly in touch with parents and guardians.

Guardianship 

Full time boarders 

Full boarders return home for half term and 

school holidays. Most of our boarders are 

full time and therefore are in school during 

weekends in term time leading to a vibrant 

atmosphere full of dynamic activity and fun. 

Weekly boarders 

Weekly boarders go home at the end of 

each school week, returning on a Sunday 

evening or Monday morning. 

TIER 4 

SPONSORSHIP 

We are licensed as a Tier 4 Sponsor by UK Visas 

and Immigration and offer sponsorship for child 

student visas for our full time boarders.

Idyllic Cambridge location 

Boarders without a family member in the 

UK require a guardian in the UK. For 

assistance in selecting a guardian, we 

recommend using AEGIS, the Association 

for the Education and Guardianship of 

International Students. Families must ensure 

guardianship is in place before pupils arrive 

at St Mary’s. 

Guardians have to live within 75 miles of 

St Mary’s School and be able to come 

to St Mary’s School at short notice, if 

necessary. They must be able to host the 

student in school holidays, or in exceptional 

circumstances such as illness. Guardians 

also play a vital role in communicating 

effectively between parents, school and the 

student, including attending parents’ 

evenings and other key events.

HOW TO APPLY 

We welcome pupils with a broad range of academic abilities, who are 

enthusiastic and have a desire to engage in learning. 

International admissions 

Places for international students are offered on the basis of an individual 

interview (in person or via Skype), alongside a selection of age-appropriate 

activities and assessments, plus a reference from a current school. 

We welcome both direct applications to our admissions team or applications 

made via an educational agent. We accept applications to all year groups 

(except Year 11 and 13). 

Demand for our boarding places is very high, therefore we recommend that you 

apply as early as possible: at least 12 months before your desired start date.
