Modeled after the UnitedNation’s International Day of Older Persons(Oct. 1), Ageism Awareness Day provides anopportunity to draw attention to the existenceand impact of ageism in our society.“Aging is not a problem,” says ASAPresident/CEO Peter Kaldes, “ageism is. Andbecause of this, we are determined to explorecultural views on aging and portrayals ofaging at the individual, community andnational levels. In a hugewin for farm to school, the governor andlegislature have authorized a significant increasein the program’s budget. This meanswe’ll be able to help even more schools,early childhood education providers andnon-profits develop and enhance farm toschool and farm to early childhood programsthroughout the state.The first of three grant opportunities, theFarm to School and Early Childhood Grant,opens for applications on Monday October3rd, with a deadline to apply of November3rd. This grant provides financial and technicalassistance to schools and early childhoodeducation providers to help developor grow their farm to school programs. Thesecond grant, the Community SupportedAgriculture Grant, will open in early Januaryof 2023. This grant helps subsidize thecost of CSA or farm share subscriptions forearly childhood education providers and afterschoolprograms looking to serve morelocal food in their operations.
