Die Förderung von Nachhaltigkeit ist ein Gebot der Stunde – auch für unser Unternehmen! Wobei wir
bei WK WOHNEN streng genommen nicht bloß über ein Unternehmen sprechen: Unsere Kollektion
umfasst neben Möbeln für unterschiedliche Wohnbereiche auch Teppiche, Leuchten und Accessoires.
Ein derart breites Sortiment macht den Einsatz vieler spezialisierter Produktionsbetriebe erforderlich.
Alle Maßnahmen zum Ausbau der Nachhaltigkeit müssen an die jeweiligen betrieblichen Voraussetzungen
angepasst werden. Anhand einiger Beispiele zeigen wir auf den folgenden Seiten, mit
welchen Aktivitäten wir Nachhaltigkeit Schritt für Schritt Realität werden lassen. Nicht nur in den
Werksgebäuden, auch in den Büros: Während ich diese Zeilen schreibe, wird eine Vielzahl von
Maßnahmen umgesetzt, mit denen unsere Hauptverwaltung so schnell wie möglich klimaneutral sein
wird.

Promoting sustainability is the order of the day – and our company is no exception! Although, strictly
speaking, WK WOHNEN isn’t just one company – our collection encompasses not just furniture for
various areas of the home, but also carpets, lamps and accessories. A range as wide as ours calls for
the use of many specialised production companies. Any measure aimed at improving sustainability
needs to be adapted to suit the different conditions at each company. The following pages contain a
number of examples that demonstrate how we are making sustainability a reality, step by step. This
is an ongoing process not only in our factory buildings, but also in our offices. As I write these lines,
numerous measures are being implemented that will make our head office climate neutral as soon
as possible.

Für den gelernten Tischler und Tischlermeister
Klaus Brettner waren Möbel
schon immer interessant. Nach
seinem Möbeldesign-Studium arbeitete
er sieben Jahre als angestellter
Designer und Werkstattleiter, dann
machte er sich als Möbeldesigner in
Herzebrock-Clarholz selbstständig.
Für ihn ist ein Entwurf dann gelungen,
wenn er auf den Betrachter
ausgewogen und harmonisch wirkt.
Effekthascherei ist da fehl am Platz:
Gutes Design will nicht dominieren,
sondern ordnet sich unter. Und besonders
im Premiumbereich gilt
für Klaus Brettner die alte Maxime:
Weniger ist mehr. Gutes Design ist
reduziertes Design.

and master joiner, Klaus Brettner has
always been interested in furniture.
After completing his studies in Furniture
Design, he worked for seven
years as an inhouse designer and
workshop manager before becoming
an independent furniture designer
in Herzebrock-Clarholz, north-west
Germany. For him, a design isn’t
complete until it looks balanced and
harmonious to the outside observer.
He’s not interested in grandstanding,
believing instead that good design fits
in with its surroundings rather than
dominating them. And especially
when it comes to premium-sector
projects, Klaus Brettner always follows
the old saying: less is more. Good
design is reduced design.

Nach einem Studium an der ehemaligen
Werkkunstschule in Wuppertal
war Klaus W. Göcke sechs Jahre lang
bei einem Büro- und Objekteinrichter
angestellt. Im Anschluss daran startete
seine selbständige Tätigkeit in
Detmold – zuerst allein, dann mit bis
zu zehn kreativen Mitarbeitern. Designprojekte
für Küchen, Wohnen und
Speisen gehören zu den Leistungsschwerpunkten
von Goeckedesign
– nicht nur in Deutschland, sondern
auch in den USA, China, Italien, Belgien
und Russland. Das Designbüro
gewann viele Auszeichnungen im
In- und Ausland (Red Dot – gute
Industrieform, Rat für Formgebung,
internationale Designpreise in den
USA und Spanien).

studying at the former art college in
Wuppertal, he was employed at an
office furnishing and interior design
company for six years. After that, he
started his own business in Detmold.

Climatex® brand covers are produced exclusively using
renewable energy, and are fully recyclable. They also come with a
number of other advantages: they adapt to your body temperature,

Unsere innovativen Stuhlsysteme WK 706 und WK
707 verfügen über die patentierte Drehmoover-Funktion,
mit der sich der Sitz sanft vor- und zurückbewegen
lässt – zur Stärkung der Rückenmuskulatur
und Vermeidung von Verspannungen. Außerdem ist
der Stuhl um 360° drehbar. Eine Rückholfeder sorgt
dafür, dass sich der Sitz automatisch wieder in die
Ursprungsposition bewegt.
Grundlage des Drehmoover-Komforts ist eine Bügelkonstruktion,
die das Drehgestell mit der Sitzschale
verbindet. Durch die spezielle Anordnung des Bügels
neigt sich die Sitzschale mit jeder Gewichtsverlagerung
nach vorne oder hinten. Das gewollt „instabile“
Sitzen bewirkt eine sensomotorische Aktivierung
der Bauch- und Rückenmuskulatur (Prinzip
des Pezziballs).
Die Stühle und Barhocker aus der Serie WK 706 sind
mit oder ohne Armlehnen verfügbar. Aufgrund ihres
zeitlos-eleganten Designs passen die Sitzmöbel beinahe
zu jedem Einrichtungsstil. Schmale Armlehnen
und ein filigranes Gestell lassen die Modelle angenehm
leicht erscheinen. Für besondere Gemütlichkeit
sorgt die leger gehaltene Polsterung.
Our WK 706 and WK 707 concept seating range feature
the patented “Moover” swivel mechanism that
makes it possible to tilt the seat forwards or backwards
slightly – which strengthens the back muscles
and prevents back tension. The chair can also be
swivelled through 360°. A retaining spring ensures
that the seat automatically returns to its original
position.
The cornerstone of the “Moover” comfort feature is
a bracketed design that connects the swivel base
to the seat. Thanks to the special way the bracket
is configured, the seat tilts forwards or backwards
according to how its user distributes their weight.
This intentionally “unstable” sitting position stimulates
the sensomotoric activation of the stomach and
back muscles (exercise ball principle).
The chairs and bar stools from the WK 706 series
are available with or without armrests. Due to its
timeless and elegant design, this seating range goes
with almost any style of interior. Slim armrests and
an elegant frame lend the chairs a beautifully lightweight
aesthetic. The casual, not-too-firm upholstery
is incredibly comfortable to sit on.

Nach ihrem Studium an der Staatlichen
Akademie der Bildenden Künste
Stuttgart arbeitete Annette Lang freiberuflich
für Matteo Thun, Antonio
Citterio und Sottsass Associati in
Mailand, bevor sie Assistentin von
Prof. Richard Sapper wurde. Heute
betreibt sie ihr eigenes Designstudio
in Wiesbaden.
Für sie ist Design vor allem eine gedankliche
Tätigkeit, verbunden mit der
Fähigkeit, unsere Umwelt ständig neu
zu entdecken. Bei ihrer Suche nach
zeitlosen und langlebigen Designlösungen
probiert sie gerne Neues aus
und kommt oft zu überraschenden
Lösungen.
Beim Entwurf des Couchtisches
WK 870 beispielsweise hat sie mit
einer Endloskurve experimentiert.
So entstand ein skulptural anmutendes
Modell, dessen Metallbein
sinuskurvenartig verläuft und sich
dabei dreidimensional im Raum
verformt.

PERIENCE.« After graduating from
the Stuttgart State Academy of Art
and Design, Annette Lang worked as
a freelancer for Matteo Thun, Antonio
Citterio and Sottsass Associati in
Milan before becoming Assistant to
Prof. Richard Sapper. Today, she runs
her own design studio in Wiesbaden,
central Germany.
For Annette, design is primarily a philosophical
pursuit combined with the
ability to keep constantly rediscovering
our surroundings. Always on
the lookout for timeless, durable
design solutions, she loves to try out
new ideas and often comes up with
surprising solutions.
When designing the WK 870 coffee
table, for example, she experimented
with the idea of an infinite curve. The
result was a sculpture-like model with
metal legs that trace a sine curve,
warping their shape through three
dimensions.

seine erste eigene Möbelkollektion auf
den Markt. Oliver Conrad Studio steht
für produzierbares Design: Sich als
Designer auf die Seite des Produzenten
zu begeben, bedeutet für Oliver
Conrad, ein anderes Verständnis für
Materialien, Qualität, Wert und Nachhaltigkeit
zu bekommen.
