Hi all,

Lichess.org is a free website where you can play chess. This four pager will show you how to

register an account and, if you’d like, turn the account into kid-mode. In kid-mode the chat

features are disabled and the only thing you can do on lichess.org is play chess. Lichess is what

most chess teachers teach lessons through and is what the middle school scholars exclusively

use.

1.) Go to lichess.org and click ‘sign in’ located in the upper right hand corner.

2.) Click register

3.) Fill out the below information. Choose an appropriate username and a password you

can remember. Once you complete this page you will be emailed a link to verify your

account. Once you have verified your account, congratulations! You have a lichess

account. Continue below to turn your lichess account into kid-mode.

4.) Once signed in you can access this link to turn your account into kid-mode.

https://lichess.org/account/kid

5.) Kid-mode can also be accessed by hovering over your username in the upper right hand

corner and clicking preferences.

6.) If you accessed kid-mode through this way, you’ll then need to click the kid-mode button

on the left side bar.

7.) Type in your password and click the ‘Enable Kid Mode’ button.

8.) You should receive this page where it says “This is about safety. In kid mode, all site

communications are disabled. Enable this for your children and school students, to protect

them from other internet users.” You’ll know your account is in kid-mode if it has a smiley

face :) next to lichess.org in the upper left hand corner. Congratulations you can now

play chess!
