2000s1999–2005IT TAKES A HOMETO RAISE A CHILD• We co-lead the It Takes a Home toRaise a Child campaign with theChicago Coalition for the Homeless,successfully advocating to create thestate Homeless Prevention Program andthe Rental Housing Support Program.The Homeless Prevention Programprovides rent and utility assistance topeople at risk for homelessness and hasprevented homelessness for more than128,000 households.The Rental Housing Support Program,a rent subsidy program with a dedicatedfunding stream of $25 million in its firstyear, continues to assist 2,500 extremelylow-income households each year.2004COMMUNITY HOUSINGDEVELOPERS INSTITUTE• We launch the Community HousingDevelopers Institute (CHDI), a workshopseries that educated hundreds ofhousing developers.2005–2016NATIONAL HOUSING TRUSTFUND CAMPAIGN• The National Housing Trust FundCampaign creates a dedicated fundingstream for building, preserving, andmaintaining affordable rental housing.Since 2016, Illinois has receivedsignificant allocations from the NHTF,including $33.7 million in FY22.2006BECOMING HOUSINGACTION ILLINOIS &EXPANDING SUPPORT FORHOUSING COUNSELORS• Statewide Housing Action Coalition(SHAC) becomes Housing ActionIllinois.
