FROM THE MANAGER I’d like to welcome Darren Carter, his staff and his players to east London for this Continental Tyres League Cup match. e’re looking for our first three points in this Wcompetition, that is our aim today as we look to make sure that we give ourselves the best possible chances of winning the group and advancing into the knockout stages. The never-say-die attitude of this group showed itself once again last weekend, as we got back to winning ways against Leicester City. Whilst I believe there are plenty of improvements performance wise that we can make, it was pleasing to see the team finding a way to win again. I’m delighted for Izzy Atkinson to have scored her first goal for the Club. She’s a young player that we value highly, and she has a bright future in the game. I thought that she took her chance well, with composure beyond her years, if you like. It’s always nice to get a last-minute winner, especially in a really tight game like that, and I’m pleased that the team fought until the very last moment so that we could walk away with all three points. Looking at today’s match, we know that we have to guard against complacency going into this sort of fixture. We will be looked at as the favourites going into the game, but we’ve watched a lot of Birmingham in preparation for the fixture and I think they’re a good side who could cause us problems today. We’ve obviously worked on ways that we can not only deal with their strengths, but also maximise our own. We know that we need to perform to give us the best possible chance of heading into the latter stages, and that’s our aim today. It’s crazy to think that this is our final home match of 2022, so I just wanted to take the time to thank you for your support of the team and wish you all a very happy Christmas and a good New Year!
