Magnificat matters to us because…
Of the philosophy of the Humility of Mary Sisters,
which permeates the quality education it bestows on
the mind, body and spirit of each of the students.
Connie and Jack Kappus
know first-hand the value of
a Sisters of the Humility of
Mary education. Connie
graduated from Lourdes Academy in
1959, and their four daughters all
graduated from Magnificat—Ellen ’81,
Eileen ’82, Barbara ’84 and Laura ’87.
It was important for them to have
their daughters attend Magnificat
because of the H.M. influence and
the all-girl environment. They wanted
their daughters to blossom into
strong, independent and spiritual
women supported by an H.M.
Catholic education. Connie was
mentored by Sister Joan Acker at
Lourdes Academy, and was happy
that her first daughter, Ellen, was also
taught by her. Connie and Jack feel
their daughters were well-prepared
for college and beyond, graduating as
strong-willed, independent thinkers,
with a giving spirit. Two of their
daughters went on to receive
master’s degrees, and one is
pursuing her Ph.D. Now another
generation continues the Kappus
family legacy as granddaughter

Endowed Scholarship in honor of
Sister Joan Acker, Connie and Jack
say their continued involvement with
Magnificat shows how much the
school and H.M. tradition matter to
them. “Having a Named Endowed
Scholarship is our way of giving back
to a worthy student. It’s our way of
saying ‘thank you’ for all the
blessings we have received from
being part of the Magnificat
community.”
