Effect of an ecological water regeneration
system on the efficiency, growth, and quality of
medical cannabis greenhouse crops
Abstract:
Using an ecological water regenerator (RNX NERO POWER® by
Euronix Sistemas, S.L, Valencia-Spain) in the cultivation of
medical cannabis in a greenhouse significantly improves plant
growth and quality, reduces water and fertilizer use, and
increases energy efficiency. In our study, plants irrigated with
the ecological water regenerator device had a significantly
higher average height, faster growth, higher THC levels, and
greater flower dry biomass than the control group. We
recommend using the RNX NERO POWER® system in medical
cannabis greenhouse cultivation for higher quality and
performance.

Introduction:
Medical cannabis has become a popular alternative to
traditional medications for the treatment of various medical
conditions. It has been shown to have numerous therapeutic
benefits, including pain relief, reduction of inflammation, and
improvement of sleep quality (Ebbert JO et al., 2018). As a
result, the cultivation of medical cannabis has become an
important industry, with greenhouse cultivation being one of
the most common methods for producing high-quality plants
(Sorrentino G, 2021).
However, medical cannabis greenhouse cultivation also has its
own set of challenges, including the need to optimize water
and nutrient management to ensure optimal plant growth
(Eichhorn et al., 2019).
Greenhouse cannabis crops use a variety of water sources for
irrigation. Unfortunately, the quality of water is often
overlooked as a potential source of plant growth. Water
quality is most important for crops in a greenhouse because
irrigation is the only source of water.

One way to improve water and nutrient management in
greenhouse cultivation is by using an ecological water
regenerator. These devices work by utilizing various natural
phenomena, such as bioelectric phenomena of mineral origin,
suction vortex movements, hydrodynamic cavitation,
geometric aspects, and resonance, to improve the quality of
water. Specifically, they have been shown to reduce the
surface tension of water and increase its oxygen content,
which can have positive effects on plant growth and
development (Brendel O., 2021; Lamm et al., 2014). Using an
ecological water regenerator can help ensure that greenhouse
plants receive the optimal amount of water and nutrient
leading to healthier and more productive crops.
In this study, we evaluated the effect of using an ecological
water regenerator (RNX NERO POWER®) on the cultivation of
medical cannabis in a greenhouse.

Methods
Experimental design:
To evaluate the effect of using RNX NERO POWER® on the
cultivation of medical cannabis in a greenhouse setting, we
conducted a 4-month experiment at a leading farm in the
Israeli market (Evergreen Solomon Sgula). A total of 420
cannabis plants were randomly assigned to the experimental
group (n=280) and the control group (n=140). The water used
in the greenhouse was sourced from the drinking water
system, filtered through a carbon filter, mixed with fertilizer,
and distributed in different irrigation lines. In the experimental
group, the water line was treated with RNX NERO POWER®
before being used to irrigate the plants (n=280). The water line
in the control group was used directly without treatment with
the water regenerator (Figure 1).
Figure 1: In the experimental group (n=280), the water line was previously
regenerated by RNX NERO POWER®. In the control group (n=140) the
water was utilized directly without treatment with the water regenerator.

Variables quantified in the different cultivation stages:
We quantified several variables at different stages of
cultivation, including the vegetative stage (until week 6-7),
flowering stage (until week 16), and harvest stage. At the end
of the vegetative stage, we evaluated height (cm), growth rate
(cm/day), and height over control (%). At the end of the
followering stage, the flowers were harvested and placed in a
drying chamber. Then the biomass of dry weight (kg) and THC
level (%) was determined. We also calculated the total amount
of water and fertilizer saved before the harvest. The water
saving was calculated based on the shortening of the growth
cycle. After the harvest, we determined the wet root biomass.
Statistical analyses were performed using IBM SPSS Statistics
for Windows, Version 26.0. The data were analyzed using the
Kruskal-Wallis test and the results were considered
statistically significant at a p-value < 0.05 (Figure 2).

Results:
The results of our experiment showed that the use of RNX
NERO POWER® had a significant effect on the cultivation of
medical cannabis in a greenhouse setting. After six weeks at
the end of the vegetative stage, the average height of the
plants in the experimental group (94.48 ± 0.817 cm) was
significantly higher than that of the plants in the control group
(74.29 ± 0.92 cm). This represents a 27.2% increase in height
for the experimental group compared to the control group
(Figures 3 y 4).

The experimental group also had a significantly higher
average growth rate (2.39 cm/day) compared to the control
group (1.85 cm/day) (Figure 5). This resulted in a shortened
growth cycle of 3-4 weeks, with the vegetative target height
being reached in just 3 weeks (compared to the usual 6-7
weeks).
In addition, the total biomass of dry flowers was 17% higher in
the experimental group compared to the control group (Figure
6). The THC levels in the experimental group were 5.7% higher
than those in the control group (data not shown).
The total average wet biomass of the root system was also
significantly higher in the experimental group (50.8 grams)
compared to the control group (39.2 grams) (Figure 7).

Furthermore, the use of RNX NERO POWER® resulted in a
significant reduction in the total water and fertilizer usage
for the cultivation of medical cannabis in the greenhouse.
The experimental group showed a saving of approximately
8.4-14 liters of fertilizer and water per plant due to the
shortened growth cycle, compared to the control group.

Discussion:
The results of this study demonstrate the positive impact of
the RNX NERO POWER® ecological water regenerator on
the cultivation of medical cannabis in a greenhouse. The
study included two groups of plants: one group that was
irrigated with the regenerator device, and a control group
that was not.

confirm the beneficial effect of using the ecological water
regenerator RNX NERO POWER® on the growth of medical
cannabis.
Not only did the plants in the experimental group grow
significantly faster than those in the control group, they also
had significantly higher flower dry biomass and THC levels.
Additionally, the use of water and fertilizers was reduced in
the experimental group compared to the control group.

The higher THC levels observed in the plants of the
experimental groups may be the result of the improved water
quality provided by RNX NERO POWER®. Research has shown
that THC synthesis is influenced by various factors, including
water and nutrient availability (Trancoso, I., 2022). It is
possible that the enhanced growth and health of the plants in
the experimental groups may have been facilitated by the
improved water quality.
The results of the study indicate that the use of RNX NERO
POWER® resulted in a shorter growth cycle, with plants in the
experimental group reaching the appropriate size and physical
characteristics for flowering at an earlier stage than the
control group.

The greenhouse usually starts the flowering stage when the
plants reach 35-40 cm. Specifically, the experimental group
reached a target height of 35 cm at 3 weeks, while the control
group did not reach this height until 4 weeks. Furthermore, the
plants in the control group were not as well developed in
terms of leaf and branch growth, suggesting that they were
not yet ready to enter the flowering phase. As a result, the
control group was only able to enter the flowering phase 3-4
weeks later than the experimental group.
With this innovative ecological water regeneration system, we
are sustainably meeting new standards of quality and
performance in medical cannabis cultivation. Based on these
results, we recommend the use of the RNX NERO POWER®
ecological water regenerator when growing medical cannabis
in greenhouses, as it can significantly increase energy
efficiency and improve plant growth and quality.

been shown to significantly improve the growth and quality of
the plants. Plants irrigated with this system had higher growth,
more flower biomass, and increased THC levels. Additionally,
the use of water and fertilizers could be reduced, resulting in a
more efficient and sustainable growth cycle. These results
demonstrate the potential of this innovative system to achieve
new standards of quality and performance in the cultivation of
medical cannabis in a sustainable way. Based on these
findings, we recommend the use of the RNX NERO POWER®
ecological water regenerator in the cultivation of medical
cannabis in a greenhouse.
