Adjudication Seminar 2023

accurately reflect to the performing company what
has been successfully achieved; to outline reasonable
steps that might be taken to enhance interpretation of
the story; and, finally, to select which of the companies
will receive awards. At its best, adjudication both

Over several festival cycles, AACT’s Adjudication Seminar
has provided adjudication training in both virtual and inperson
formats. In 2023, AACT is combining the benefits
of both formats in a hybrid model designed to maximize
the experience.
Seminar Instructor Kristi

coaching and to address
specific topics. Kristi is

adjudicated at festivals at
many levels.
Join us for the AACT 2023 Adjudication Seminar! For
registration information, visit aact.org/seminar, as
well as information on two BIPOC scholarships for the
seminar to support and mentor theatre-makers of color.
The Adjudication Seminar will begin with six virtual
sessions, two and a half hours each, scheduled March
through May, 2023. Once participants have completed
the virtual training, they will view the performances firsthand
at the National Festival in Louisville, and respond
to them with techniques learned in training, receiving
feedback from the seminar instructor that is designed
to polish both message and delivery. In-person sessions
during the festival will also include how to negotiate with
fellow adjudicators to determine award outcomes, and
how to prepare for work as an adjudicator.

The AACT Adjudication Seminar includes in-person sessions at
the AACTFest National Festival. Seminar Instructor Kathy Pingel
explains the importance of positivity in adjudicating at the AACT
