Ofcourse, there are many in the village whoremember the Queen coming onto thethrone, but I wonder if we could haveimagined in 1952 how the village wouldbe today. New houses, a car outsidealmost every house, the telephone boxesleft redundant by a telephone in everyhouse, mobile phones and now a highspeedinternet connections weavingaround our village.Looking around our fields and thebeautiful springtime countryside aroundus it is hard to worry about the distantwars rumbling in Eastern Europe andin the Middle East, the threat of climatechange or the growing economiccrisis. But Woolaston is no longer theisolated rural village it once was, theopening of the Severn Bridge by theQueen in 1966 and the building ofmotorways have brought new people toWoolaston from far away. Woolastonis now a cosmopolitan village and itsresidents enjoy a degree of travel andcommunication which could only bedreamed of when the Queen startedher reign. Woolaston is now hometo people who commute to Bristol,Cardiff, Gloucester and London. Thehuge change in communications since1952 mean that many now work fromPage 1
