OBITUARY
Loved the community he was raised in
Francis Kenneth Wetter was born on
Aug. 11, 1925 and passed away Dec. 21,
2022 at Castor, Alta.
Ken was raised in the
Castor area along with his
sisters Judy and Eunice
and his brother Wes.
During his lifetime Ken
loved the community that
he was raised in. The
Castor School is named
after his father Gus Wetter,
another great member of
Castor.
Wetter
Ken operated the grocery store in
Castor for 20 years starting in 1949. In
1981 Ken was elected as the mayor of
Castor and he ran the office
with great efficiency, something
he also required from all his
staff, he hated inefficiency.
He loved his coffee group and
enjoyed the local news the members
had to share with him.
During his life he has lost significant
members of his family;
parents Kathleen and Gustave;
he lost his first wife Kaye
Navigating differences
Spencer. They were married in 1950
and she passed away in 1986 and three
years later he married Lil Walters and
she passed away in 2000; his brother
Wesley; and his sister Eunice Huff and
brother-in-law Francis Hall.
Ken leaves to mourn his family:
sister Judith Hall; his sons: Randy
(Marly) of Stony Plain ~ their children
Jesse (Celia) and Alysha; Kevin
(Joanne) of Castor ~ their children
Mace and Jason (Karla) ~ Ty and
Chloe; Darcy (Monica) of Calgary ~
Teris and Carson and Isabella Dalcin;
brother-in-law Peter Huff; other family
and many dear friends.
A funeral service will be held on
Cont’d from Pg 2
This means we’ll need to lay to rest
the mistaken notion that secularism is
neutral. It is not. There’s nothing neutral,
for example, in Quebec’s attempt
to ban government and governmentaffiliated
employees from wearing
religious symbols. Forcing people to
privatize their faith in order to
advance secularism, which is also a
system of belief with its own creeds
and rituals, undermines deep
pluralism.
New acting
commander
introduced
Cont’d from Pg 3
During her presentation Cornelssen
stated the interim budget was “just a
formality” but one that needed to be
approved by Dec. 31 to ensure the
county can continue conducting business.
She further clarified the full 2023
budget remains in the development
stage.
Cornelssen stated the interim
budget was, essentially, the 2022
budget with a new name.
RCMP commander
Council was introduced to Stettler
RCMP detachment acting commander
S/Sgt. Jon England. He stated he was
filling in for detachment commander
S/Sgt. Bruce Holliday, who is away.
England stated he’s been told that he
will be in charge of the Stettler detachment
for three months while Holliday
is away but that’s probably an RCMP
term for “they don’t know how long it
will be” said England.
“It’s likely going to be longer,” said
England. “I would anticipate six
months to possibly a year.” The staff
sergeant added that he didn’t know if
he would be the acting commander for
that entire time.
Coun. James Nibourg asked that
council move into closed session to discuss
private issue with England that
council had previously discussed with
Holliday.
Councillors were in the private session
with England for about 14 minutes
before the meeting was re-opened to
the public.
Neither can we pretend
that all faiths essentially
teach the same things,
which our survey suggests
63 per cent of Canadians
believe. Despite some possible
overlap in morality or
ethics, faiths differ in very
significant ways. For
example, apart from their
belief in the oneness of God,
Jews and Muslims believe
something very different
from Christians when it
comes to who Jesus Christ
is.
So, we’ll need to learn to
navigate differences. A
deeply pluralist Canada
makes room for and
We have a diverse society
ignore Canada’s faith communities.
