RANGERS v
ABERDEEN
Four seasons ago, Rangers had
striking issues with Alfredo Morelos
suspended and Kyle Lafferty cuptied
from his time at Kilmarnock
so Roma loanee Umar Sadiq
played. He had an off day but has
since been involved in over £20m
worth of transfers and currently
plays for Real Sociedad in La Liga.
“Umar has gone on to do well since
that game,” admitted Beale. “You’re
always pleased to see people do
well in their careers. It wasn’t his
day that day and again it was a day
where we dominated possession
but you win the game in the boxes
and set plays are vital to that.”
The final still grates, too. Alfredo
Morelos missed a penalty after
Jeremie Frimpong was sent off
and if VAR had been around,
Christopher Jullien’s winner
would not have counted.
He said: “I felt it was unjust that we
lost that game so it’s important
that we continue to come back
here and continue to do well.
We dominated that game and
missed a penalty after they were
down to 10 men and it turned
out that their goal was offside. It
was a really strong performance
and we created a lot. It was in
our hands and we let it slip.
“I will try to push that to the back
of my memory. The bottom line
is that cup semi-finals and finals
are there to be won. They are not
necessarily there to play well in.
We’re playing an Aberdeen team
that’s made some additions. They
hadn’t been in the best of form
but they won well last weekend
so they will be boosted by that.
“We’ve played them twice already
this season so we know them well
and they know us. They’ll bring
their best so we have to bring
our best to make sure we’re the
team going to the final. If you
put yourself in the other camp,
it means the absolute world to
them. So, unless you are willing
to give everything you’ve got
then you can’t expect anything.
“I remember watching the scenes
in the Scottish Cup last season
against Celtic then Hearts. Firstly,
Fashion Sakala and Calvin Bassey
celebrating the winner in the semifinal
and then the great moments
after winning the final. I want to
sample that with this group and
they all want exactly the same.”
