CHRONICLES - LUDWIG RIML

Do you remember the click that sparked your passion for photography?

For me I do not think it was a special point in time or a click. It is more like a strong desire to express myself

that has evolved through the years.

Who are your main influences on photography? And outside of it?

I remember when I first started out to photograph seriously that I would buy all the Photography Magazines

and books available. I have always studied things for myself only. I guess it's because I have such high

expectations for myself. I just do not want to expose myself before I think my work is good enough. That is

why I don't submit myself to teachers. I get very unsecure in a teaching situation and my creativity is gone. I

get paralyzed.

Outside of photography I get influenced of all types of art and the beauty around us. I think what still

influences me the most is my meditative way of life. I am a "slow" photographer.

I notice that most of your photos are landscape and documentary photography. Why choose landscape and

documentary photography? Love at first sight or did you discover your relationship with landscape and

documentary photography over time?

I think my landscape photography has evolved through the influence of my childhood. Nature has been my

home since I was a shepheard with my goats and cows high up in the mountains of Tirol in summer and on

the skis during winter. Through landscape photography I try to convey my feelings and emotions. On a

deeper level I hope to mediate a sense of being that connects us all.
