Training and working alongside Leeds Rhinos, <strong>the</strong><br />

culture <strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> club is <strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> highest level and within a<br />

short period has cre<strong>at</strong>ed 16 intern<strong>at</strong>ional players for<br />

<strong>the</strong> student n<strong>at</strong>ional teams, opportunities rivalled by few<br />

universities, making <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Gloucestershire</strong><br />

an excellent place to study whilst enabling access to an<br />

<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Gloucestershire</strong> <strong>Rugby</strong> <strong>League</strong> Club<br />

The <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Gloucestershire</strong> All Golds <strong>Rugby</strong><br />

<strong>League</strong> Football Club currently competes in <strong>the</strong><br />

British <strong>University</strong> and Colleges Sports (BUCS)<br />

N<strong>at</strong>ional Super 6 Competition, involving <strong>the</strong> top<br />

6 rugby league teams in <strong>the</strong> country. The club<br />

also supports a reserves side ‘<strong>the</strong> All Blues’, which<br />

compete on a Wednesday afternoon in BUCS<br />

Wales and West division.<br />

The 2011/12 season was <strong>the</strong> most successful so far<br />

in <strong>the</strong> club’s history, with <strong>the</strong> club: being n<strong>at</strong>ional<br />

semi-finalists; victorious in <strong>the</strong> Salford 9s Festival<br />

against Super <strong>League</strong> opposition; making fur<strong>the</strong>r<br />

progress in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Rugby</strong> <strong>League</strong> Challenge Cup<br />

and with <strong>the</strong> ‘All Blues’ being semi-finalists in<br />

<strong>the</strong> BUCS Shield. For <strong>the</strong> first time in <strong>the</strong> sport’s<br />

history, a university club will enter rugby league’s<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essional ranks when, in 2013, <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Gloucestershire</strong> All Golds will take <strong>the</strong>ir place and<br />

compete in <strong>the</strong> Co-oper<strong>at</strong>ive Championship 1.<br />

The <strong>Rugby</strong> <strong>League</strong> Club provides a<br />

comprehensive support package for its players, as<br />

well as boasting a structured training programme<br />

which consists <strong>of</strong> multiple weekly training sessions<br />

with access to a variety <strong>of</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r services provided<br />

on <strong>the</strong> Oxstalls Campus <strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> university.<br />

Monday: 6.00-8.00pm<br />

Tuesday: 8.00-9.00am<br />

Wednesday: BUCS <strong>League</strong>/Cup Fixture<br />

Thursday: PM Rehabilit<strong>at</strong>ion session<br />

Friday: PM Physio<strong>the</strong>rapy Clinic<br />

In addition to physical conditioning sessions,<br />

team meetings and shared training sessions will<br />

be scheduled. The training schedule is subject to<br />

change throughout <strong>the</strong> season.<br />

Student Success<br />

The <strong>Rugby</strong> <strong>League</strong> Club has had a number <strong>of</strong><br />

players over <strong>the</strong> past 3 years selected for n<strong>at</strong>ional<br />

and intern<strong>at</strong>ional represent<strong>at</strong>ive honours. These<br />

Club Partnerships<br />

The All Golds are partnered with Leeds Rhinos,<br />

one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> gre<strong>at</strong>est and best-known rugby clubs<br />

in <strong>the</strong> world. Best practice is shared with <strong>the</strong><br />

Leeds club in all aspects. This rel<strong>at</strong>es to every area<br />

<strong>of</strong> club management including playing, coaching,<br />

media, marketing, medical and administr<strong>at</strong>ion.<br />

The <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Gloucestershire</strong><br />

The excellent sports’ facilities <strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> university,<br />

combined with support from a spectrum <strong>of</strong><br />

disciplines within sport and higher educ<strong>at</strong>ion,<br />

makes it a gre<strong>at</strong> choice for elite <strong>at</strong>hletes and<br />

sports performers who want to compete in<br />

sport whilst fur<strong>the</strong>ring <strong>the</strong>ir educ<strong>at</strong>ion. The<br />

university has strong links with <strong>the</strong> Students’<br />

Union to provide all students with a wide range<br />

<strong>of</strong> facilities and activities from health and fitness<br />

to recre<strong>at</strong>ional (UNIversal Sport) and competitive<br />

sport in <strong>the</strong> BUCS programme.<br />

<strong>University</strong> Scholarship Scheme<br />

The <strong>University</strong> Scholarship Scheme aims to<br />

<strong>at</strong>tract talented student <strong>at</strong>hletes to study <strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

university and <strong>of</strong>fers support to balance university<br />

life with achieving <strong>the</strong>ir sporting potential.<br />

The comprehensive support package includes<br />

scholarships for high performance <strong>at</strong>hletes (up<br />

to £500 to assist with tuition, accommod<strong>at</strong>e<br />

fees and competition expenses) and fitness suite<br />

membership.<br />

Centre for Sport<br />

Loc<strong>at</strong>ed in <strong>the</strong> south west <strong>of</strong> England,<br />

Cheltenham and Gloucester provide a perfect<br />

loc<strong>at</strong>ion for training, with direct road and rail links<br />

to London and <strong>the</strong> north <strong>of</strong> England. Several<br />

venues within <strong>the</strong> City <strong>of</strong> Gloucester and <strong>the</strong><br />

region fe<strong>at</strong>ured in <strong>the</strong> London 2012 pre-games<br />

training camp guide, with <strong>the</strong> university also<br />

hosting <strong>the</strong> Malawi Olympic team.<br />

The university is actively involved with developing<br />

many potential Olympic competitors and works<br />

closely with major sports’ clubs, many <strong>of</strong> which<br />

are based in Cheltenham and Gloucester. The<br />

wide range <strong>of</strong> venues and support services<br />

available to <strong>at</strong>hletes mean th<strong>at</strong> <strong>Gloucestershire</strong><br />

is an ideal centre for sports’ students, <strong>at</strong>hletes,<br />

sports’ organis<strong>at</strong>ions and associ<strong>at</strong>ed disciplines.
