BARNSLEY HOSPICE
Hospice, and some don’t understand
it, but when I’m here, I feel more
relaxed than I have ever been.
“I’m a typical Barnsley man, and I
never thought I’d be one for using
relaxation techniques, but the
Hospice has taught me so many
ways to cope with my anxiety that I
use all the time at home.
“I think what stands out for me at
the Hospice is the staff. They are
absolutely superb. From the moment
I walk into the room, I feel at ease.
Everything they do feels completely
tailored to me, which is just lovely.
“I haven’t raised the white flag,
but in the moments where I am
struggling, the team are right there
to pick me up and support me. I often
don’t even need to say anything, and
the team just knows when I need
that extra phone call or a chat. I don’t
have enough words to describe how
great they are!”
In November 2022, Mark was
part of the Club’s Together Red
campaign, during which the Hospice
was announced as the first charity
front of shirt sponsor. As a lifelong
fan of the Reds, he wants to thank
the Club and fans for their ongoing
support.
“The first time I went to Oakwell was
in 1980, and I’ve followed the Club
ever since. It’s hard to find the words
to thank everyone at Barnsley FC
enough for the way they support a
charity that means so much to me.
“I hope all the fans who bought a
shirt or have put money in a bucket
today know what an impact it has
on people like me. Many of us know
someone who has been supported
by the Hospice or will be in the
future, so any support you can give
really means the world.”
