To be flawed. That has to mean something. Especially becauseevery single one of us carries a flaw or two. Now lets apply that to artand fashion. Most of us know that perfection is unattainable, but I’d liketo think of true perfection as just the accumulation of perfect flaws. Most of us have our own sense of style, and through that style we findour own identity, our own sense of self and even sense of fame. That issomething truly powerful. What fashion means to me, is the freedomand capacity to express yourself with the articles of clothing or materialsyou choose to display on your body. I find that when you reach forthe stars and dabble in a bit of haute-couture, avantgarde and quitesimply, stray away from the conventional beauty, there is so much todissect that it becomes not only about fashion, but it becomes an artisticand even spiritual experience of the highest level.I’m not exactly sure when it was that I began having an eye and desireto belong in fashion and the arts, but I know that pop-culture playedan everlasting role in that pursuit. I’ve had the pleasure of witnessingiconic musicians with the wildest sense of stlye such as; Cher, DavidBowie, Grace Jones, Bjork and Lady Gaga, to name a few. To go handin hand with some of the most iconic fashion desginers to ever grace arunway such as; Alexander Mcqueen, Thierry Mugler and Iris VanHerpen. I know these people are a huge reason as to why fashion & artmean so much to me and why I dare to go further when it comes to myself-expression not only in Second Life but in my real-life when the opportunitypresents itself. Second Life is an extraordinary platform thatin the last 16 years has granted its users the possibility of creating anythingand everything from real-life, to original content never beforeseen. We hope that as time progresses, Second Life in general will gaina deeper appreciation for the strange, the bizarre, the weird and thecouture. To also understand that it is okay to be a freak when everyoneelse around you is too gorgeous to dare show a flaw, or to vain toreach past the limits of the box they’ve placed themselves in.I think it is also important to be confident in one’s own unique style, andto experiment with fashion & art for yourself first, before trying to besomeone else. Embracing your own flaws can be the start of you findinga style that you can claim as your own, and once you have that, thepossibilities for your art & fashion to blossom as you see fit, are virtuallyendless, so long as you have the drive for it.I hope that when you read our issue and many issues to come, that youexperience the passion, sense of love & appreciation that we havefor all things flawed and out of the ordinary.
