Luke Hannam (b. 1966)Luke Hannam describes his work as theresult of an ‘ordered chaos’ where poeticpaintings are made ‘in the eye of the storm’,where creativity spins wildly, through burstsof impulse around a silent meditative deepwell of meaning. Ideas emerge out of anenergetic dedication to drawing and arelentless desire to explore images andmotifs. His work is instantly recognisablethrough his strong punch of colour anddefinite use of line which weaves its waysensuously across the surface, denoting boththe delicacy and strength of the form andspirit of the subject. Hannam’s paintingsexpressively offer a singular view on howwhat he sees, how he thinks and pivotallyhow he feels about the human condition andwhat lies beyond our materiality. His workcould be seen to continue the Romantictradition, embracing reality and mysticismwith the wonder of experience.Luke Hannam was born in 1966 and currentlylives in East Sussex, UK. He studied FineArt in the 1980s and whilst others of hisgeneration faithfully chanted the conceptualmantra of the time, Hannam focussed onperfecting his expressive drawing skillsseeking inspiration from the earlier masters.Works have been exhibited and collectedinternationally, including the collectionsof Stefan Simchowitz and David Kowitz.The Silk Roads of Ignorance & Blissoil on canvas, 250 x 160 cm28
