This, along with the One and Two,is a clear indication of the depth of experience in the UNT jazz studiesdivision represented by these faculty-led top three jazz lab bands.The Three O’Clock has appeared at the Notre Dame, UT Longhorn,Friends University and Wichita jazz festivals. The Three has served asthe house band for the annual UNT Jazz Trombone Day event at UNT byformer director Nick Finzer. It has also performed for the Gospel MeetsJazz series organized by former director and jazz saxophone professorBrad Leali.Professor DeRosa has extensive experience writing for and conductingmany of the top professional jazz orchestras in the world, includingresidencies with the WDR Big Band and guest conducting hiscommissioned pieces with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra at therequest of Wynton Marsalis. Recent album projects include: My PersonalSongbook, featuring Ron Carter; Rediscovered Ellington, featuring GarryDial and Dick Oatts; Perseverance – The Music of Rich DeRosa at NorthTexas, that includes “Suite for an Anniversary,” a commissioned work thatcelebrated UNT’s 125th anniversary.DeRosa received a Grammy nomination for Best InstrumentalComposition for his big band composition “Neil” which is dedicated toNeil Slater, director of the One O’Clock Lab Band from 1981–2008 andrecorded by the One O’Clock Lab Band on Lab 2015.University of North Texas College of Music
