Under the direction of Jennifer Barnes, JazzSingers consists of ten vocalists and a four-piece rhythm sectionwho perform a challenging and varied repertoire of jazz and jazzinfluencedcutting-edge repertoire, notably featuring compositionsand arrangements by current students, alumni, and UNT faculty. In addition, they singin Jazz Chamber Ensembles, Latin Jazz Lab Band, Zebras (pop/R&B/soulband), Brazilian Ensemble, and with one of the seven Lab Bands. Overthe years, individual UNT vocal jazz students have received DownBeatmagazine Student Music Awards for solo singing, arranging, leading smallgroups, and composition. Alumni of the program have gone on to winor receive nominations for Grammy Awards, Independent Music Awardsand CASA awards, and are enjoying successful careers as recordingartists, studio singers, college professors, composers, arrangers, musicproducers, and worship leaders.University of North Texas College of Music
