Welcome to Grŵp Llandrillo Menai. This course guide
contains information on degree-level courses, degree
apprenticeships and professional qualifications offered by
Coleg Llandrillo, Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor, Choleg Menai and
Busnes@LlandrilloMenai, which together form Grŵp Llandrillo
Menai, one of the largest groups of colleges in the UK.
We offer an extensive range of higher-level
qualifications, including Foundation and
Honours Degrees, validated by Bangor
University. Many of our courses are vocational
Higher Education qualifications, developed in
consultation with employers, to equip you with
the knowledge and skills that employers need
and to help you whether you are progressing
into employment or looking to advance your
skills and career.
If you’re already in employment but looking
to change career or gain a promotion, our
timetables are work and family friendly,
making it easier for you to combine studying
with your other commitments.

to university. Most courses are delivered
at the University Centre in Rhos-on-Sea,
with some programmes available locally
at our Bangor, Dolgellau, Llangefni and

All of our Foundation Degrees offer
further progression opportunities to
honours level of study, either with
ourselves or at another university and
many of our graduates gain a promotion
at work. We also offer Access to Higher
Education provision for those looking
to return to education, aspiring to do
something new or changing careers,
with a range of routes available.

All degree–level students get a
dedicated Personal Tutor. Class sizes
are small, so your expert tutors will
have more time to dedicate to you for
individual support and guidance. Our
friendly staff in Learner Services can

Our degree–level teaching staff are
highly experienced at teaching at a
higher-level. Many of our staff have
higher-level qualifications such as
PHDs and Masters and some have
been involved in research work in
universities. As a degree–level student
you’ll benefit from their strong
vocational experience as many of our
staff have worked within industry.
WELSH
LANGUAGE
Grŵp Llandrillo Menai is fully committed
to promoting and supporting the Welsh
language and we provide all degree–
level students with the opportunity to
be assessed in Welsh. Some courses are
also taught bilingually and there is also
a Welsh language bursary available for
Welsh speaking students.

The Llangefni campus has benefitted from huge
investment in recent years, with degree courses
in Construction and Engineering taking place in
the modern Engineering and Energy centres.
BANGOR
The Parc Menai campus, on the outskirts of
Bangor is home to a number of Art & Design
degree-level courses. Teacher Training courses
are also available at the Bangor campus,
in the town.
DOLGELLAU
Our Dolgellau campus offers the opportunity to
study a range of degree programmes through
the medium of Welsh, including Business and
Management, Sport Science, Health & Social
Care and Teacher Training.

The University Centre at our Rhos-on-Sea
campus was built in partnership with Bangor
University and is the base for nearly 1,000
learners. The centre is equipped with purposebuilt
lecture theatres, seminar rooms, bookable
student study rooms and specialist library
resources, providing degree–level students with
bespoke teaching and learning facilities in one
dedicated centre.

The modern Rhyl campus has recently been
approved to run the Certificate of Higher
Education in Social Care and the Certificate

STUDENT LIFE
STUDENT UNION
Grŵp Llandrillo Menai’s Students’ Union is
affiliated to the National Union of Students
(NUS) and all students are automatically entitled
to become members of the Students' Union,
benefiting from its affiliation with the NUS. The
Union has an elected Higher Education Student
Union President to represent the interests of
degree-level students.
SPORTS
As a student, you can take part in many sports
at both friendly and competitive levels at the
different campuses, including athletics, badminton,
basketball, football, hockey, netball, rugby and
squash, as well as a range of outdoor activities.
FOOD & DRINK
There are a variety of eating places and cafés
across our campuses, including Starbucks.
CELEBRATING SUCCESS
A graduation ceremony is held each year to
celebrate the achievements of our successful
graduates. Every degree–level student who is
awarded a university qualification will be
invited to attend the ceremony to celebrate

course before moving onto Level 3.

QUALIFICATIONS

HONOURS DEGREES
An Honours Degree has 360 Higher credits. In some
subjects, the Honours Degree is studied full-time over three
years. In others, a Foundation Degree is studied first and
this can then be topped up to an Honours Degree with one
or two years further study.
HIGHER NATIONAL CERTIFICATE/
DIPLOMAS (HNC/HND)
Higher National Certificate/Diploma (HNC/HND) are workrelated
degree–level qualifications normally studied parttime
for two years or full-time for a year. On completion,
you could progress onto a Foundation Degree.
FOUNDATION DEGREES
As a general guide, a Foundation Degree has 240 Higher
Education credits, including 40 credits of employabilitybased
learning.
Unlike other undergraduate programmes, Foundation
Degrees are not just about theory. They provide you with the
knowledge and skills that employers need, by combining
theory with application in the workplace. This will help you
to enhance your employment opportunities and to prepare
for more responsibility or promotion.
All of our Foundation Degrees have been developed with
clear progression routes onto Honours Degrees at Grŵp
Llandrillo Menai or at one of our partner institutions.
DEGREE APPRENTICESHIPS
Degree Apprenticeships provide an alternative route to
traditional higher education, combining full-time work with
part-time university study.
› Earn while you learn – As a Degree Apprentice you’ll be
employed as part of your course, meaning you’ll earn a
salary whilst studying.
› Industry qualification – Your qualification is directly
related to your industry, giving you and your employer
the skills needed to be a success.
› Employability skills – Alongside your academic
qualification, a Degree Apprenticeship allows you to
continue your practical work experience and progress in
your career.
Entry requirements: You will need to be in either full-time
or part-time employment (minimum 16 hours per week) in
an appropriate engineering/digital/IT industry.
In the last year of your Degree Apprenticeship, you’ll move
location to Bangor University to study for one day per week
to complete the BSc/BA (Hons) qualification. On successful
completion, you will be presented with a degree from
Bangor University at the annual Graduation Ceremony.

The Certificate of Higher Education in Counselling provides learners with the

& SIGN LANGUAGE
Our degree programmes in British Sign Language and
