gina, Nigeria’s flagship ultra-deep
offshore field operated by
TotalEnergies,has been declared winner
of the Excellence in Project Integra on prize at
the 15th Interna onal Petroleum Technology
Conference (IPTC) in Bangkok, Thailand
recently.
PETAN, Africa Oil, Gas Associations To
Launch e-Business Platform In 2023
The Petroleum Technology
Associa on of Nigeria (PETAN) and
African Local Content Associa ons
have disclosed their plan to launch an
African local content oil and gas business
e-pla orm by 3rd quarter of this year.
PETAN Chairman, Nicolas Odinuwe made
this known in his speech at the 7th Edi on
of the sub-Saharan interna onal
conference and exhibi on (SAIPEC) 2023
in Lagos, no ng that the pla orm is
currently being developed by the local
content associa ons.
According to him, the e-business pla orm
will facilitate a one-stop colla on of
available opportuni es, capaci es, and
capabili es within the sub-Sahara Africa
region.
He also revealed the plan by PETAN to
collaborate with the Welding Federa on
(TWF) on an integrated one-skill passport
for welding and related prac ces as well
as the partnership with the Nigerian
Content Development and Management
Board (NCDMB) for the establishment of
the African local content funding.
He further noted that the PETAN Seal of
quality (PSQ) launched a few years ago, is
being expanded to be industry inclusive in
partnership with NCDMB and relevant
stakeholders.
Odinuwe noted that the collabora on on the
PETAN Seal of quality (PSQ) has also been
extended to Uganda, Mozambique, Tanzania,
Senegal, Ghana, Angola, Guyana, etc.
He also charged the African Union to use the
African Con nental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA)
to consider a unified and integrated African
cer fica on/standard as prac ced in America,
European Union, and Britain.
The PETAN Chairman said, “We should
seriously consider elimina ng mul ple
cer fica ons domiciled outside our sphere
and the associated huge foreign exchange
impact. (An indirect and con nued colonial
ves ge).
“These ins tu ons outside Africa (supported
by their governments) have made our
respec ve standardiza on agencies confined
to just names.”
He added that the Welding Federa on (TWF)
personnel cer fica ons and skill passports are
steps in the right direc on.
“Congratula ons to us all. It’s indeed a good
achievement to the company and our partners,
and we must find a way to communicate the
great feat to our teams that were fully involved
in the project (Past/Present),” the Deputy
Managing Director, Deepwater, Mr. Victor
Bandele said in a statement on Thursday.
The President EP, Nicolas Terraz, said the award
was a testament to the commitment, hard
work and dedica on of the TotalEnergies EP
Nigeria (TEPNG) and TotalEnergies Upstream
Nigeria Limited (TUPNI) teams.
The award, the IPTC explained, is given to a
project that adds value to the industry and has
exemplified strong teamwork, solid geoscience
knowledge, reservoir and produc on
engineering acumen, determined and watchful
construc on, and outstanding facili es
engineering prac ces. It also noted that a
successful project requires a pervasive culture
of HSE, and a posi ve impact on the
communi es it affects.
Three nominated projects made it to the final
stage, from a pool of nomina ons, with each
finalist’s project making a presenta on at the
conference before the winner was announced
by the IPTC conference.General Manager,
Preowei Development Packages, Mr. Paul
Timitula Brisibe, who made the Company’s
presenta on at the event.
He noted: “Partnership & collabora on
amongst all stakeholders; Technological
Exper se and Local commitment made Egina a
Nigerian project with Global footprint.”
The 200,000 barrels/day field came on stream
in December 2018 with one of the largest
Floa ng Produc on Storage and Offloading
vessels in the world.
TotalEnergies is the operator of the field with
partners that include CNOOC, SAPETRO, Prime
130, and NNPC limited. It is s ll reckoned as the
largest investment project to date in Nigeria’s
oil and gas sector and is a polestar of Nigerian
content as confirmed by the Nigerian Content
Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB).
