INTERVIEWAMY NEWTON-MCCONNEL:After fullyembracing ICM, myphotography hasevolved to anabstract form of artUQ:Tell a little bit about how youfirst got into creating art.For as long as I remember I havealways created art with my hands(primarily mixed media collage), andI have always had a passion forphotography. When I discovered InCamera Movement (ICM) photography,I realized I could create emotionallyresponsive and thought-provoking artthrough photography. AMY NEWTON-MCCONNELICM photography is a creative processthat inspires me to see, feel and thinkdifferently about my surroundings andcreatively reimagine my environmentin a new and unexpected way. Utilizingtechniques where I intentionally movemy camera during the exposure,I “paint” with a camera. It is nota random or accidental movement ofthe camera, but controlled moves inorder to create the desired image andatmosphere.Quiet Escapecamera. After fully embracing ICM, myphotography has evolved to an abstractform of art.What is important to you about thevisual experiences you create?It is important to me that my artcaptures an absolute unique momentin time, not seen by the naked eye orthrough an ordinary lens. I want myviewer to experience the fluidity, colorand emotion of the moment, as itdisappears in a blink of an eye.What is your favorite art accident?Did it change your perspective?NOT an accident, but a revelation …In a photographic world generallyobsessed with image sharpness,discovering ICM photography freed mefrom striving for technical focus onminute details.
