SLAM DUNK 

Our Winter Sports season extended to March 

18th this year as the Frankenmuth Eagles 

Varsity Girls Basketball team made it all the way 

to the State Finals game. It has been several years 

since one of our coverage basketball teams made 

it that far, and we thoroughly enjoyed following 

many of the teams throughout the playoff 

season. This issue is filled with pictures from 

many of those playoff events. Of course, we are 

limited to the pages that we can print, but you 

can check out our website to see MANY more 

events that we covered. 


Congratulations to all of our winter athletes for 

making it through the season, for working hard 

to represent your school and community, and for 

entertaining many friends, family, and fans that 

were able to attend your games!

TO SAY BROWN CITY’S GADEN MUXLOW TOOK HIS 

GAME TO ANOTHER LEVEL THIS SEASON, WOULD BE 

AN UNDERSTATEMENT. THE GREEN DEVIL SENIOR 

REWROTE THE RECORD BOOKS AND EARNED ALL- 

THUMB PLAYER OF THE YEAR HONORS ALONG THE 

WAY. 

Muxlow led the Thumb in scoring, at 27.5 points per 

game, but his scoring scratched the surface of his 

dominating season. 

“It was a pretty special season; it was really fun to be 

a part of,” said Brown City coach Robert Hatten. “He 

put up video game-type numbers. 

When you look at the season as a 

whole, it’s pretty astonishing to see 

what he accomplished.” 

Added Hatten: “A big reason why 

is the investment that he made. 

There’s nobody that spends more 

time in the gym. He definitely put a 

lot of time and effort into this. The 

payoff that he got is pretty good.” 

Muxlow achieved the triple crown 

of Brown City records this season. 

He set the single game record 

for points in a game at 45, the single season mark for 

points at 683 and the career record at 1,555. 

He was incredibly efficient, shooting 45% from 3-point 

range and made 84% of his free throws. Muxlow scored 

20 or more points in all but two of 24 games. 

“The consistency this season was probably most 

impressive,” Hatten said. “To do it night in and night out, 

to avoid foul trouble, to avoid injuries, to avoid getting 

sick, that was pretty cool.” 

He added: “There’s a lot of nights where he made me 

look like a really good coach. Sometimes, my biggest 

job was to stay out of the way and not over coach. He 

just had such a good feel for the game.”

DELANEY ST. GEORGE’S STATISTICS ARE QUITE 

IMPRESSIVE AND HELPED KINGSTON TO ANOTHER 

OUTSTANDING SEASON. BUT THE JUNIOR GUARD 

MEANS MUCH MORE THAN NUMBERS TO THE 

CARDINALS. 

“She has a good understanding of the game, she’s like 

a coach out on the floor,” said Kingston coach Jay Green. 

“What’s kind of underrated about her is her basketball IQ 

and being able to lead our fastbreak and deliver accurate 

passes. She has great timing and that’s a core part of her 

importance to the team.” 

He added: “She is the ultimate competitor; she wants 

to win. When she steps onto the floor it’s 100% effort on 

both ends. It’s the Kingston way, go out there and give it 

all you got for 32 minutes.” 

On the floor, St. George led the North Central Thumb 

League in scoring at 15.8 points per game, to go with 4.5 

assists, 2.1 steals and 2.1 rebounds. 

She was deadly from long range, 

shooting at 40% from 3-point. 

“She has the ability to recognize a 

3-point shot and have herself ready,” 

Green said. “To shoot 40% from 

3-point in girls basketball is really 

impressive.” St. George improved 

her overall physical toughness and 

Kingston was the beneficiary of it all 

season. 

“You can just tell that she’s a little 

bit stronger with the ball,” Green 

said. “Some of the stuff that she’s improved on is her 

midrange game, and her ability to take it to the basket 

and the added strength has helped with that.” 

Green is looking forward to one more season with St. 

George. “I see her continuing to be a force and a great 

shooter from the outside,” he said. “But I see her getting 

better with penetrating in the lane. Being able to create 

opportunities for herself and others.”
