Description
If you love the Greek islands, then this is most definitely the book for you!It is a lively and entertaining
story of intrigue, relationships, holiday activities and village life during a summer on the island of Kos. The
author wrote this novel because she missed the opportunity to travel to Greece during Covid lockdowns. It
vividly recaptures the scenery, atmosphere, traditions and culture of the Dodecanese islands – all bathed in
Mediterranean sunshine. Readers familiar with the islands will enjoy their memories flooding back while
others will be keen to follow in the author’s footsteps.Rosemary helps out at an Art Centre and her husband
John works part-time for Meltemi windsurf hire. Her visiting friend Jan begins a romance with the Greek
owner of a car hire firm. An arsonist causes Meltemi and other beachside businesses increasing concern and
speculation as to the culprit. Experiences such as bread making in a traditional outside bake oven,
contending with disruption caused by feuding neighbours and the annual fish festival bring local events to
life. Meanwhile interactions with those who have moved to Kos from the UK reveal how they have built
their homes and businesses there. Against this backdrop, Rosemary and John go island hopping by ferry,
visiting seven other islands. By bus, bicycles and on foot along ancient footpaths, they discover villages,
castles, monasteries and wildlife.Rosemary Vulliamy has always loved travelling. Her first trip abroad was
aged 17 when she travelled by herself through France and Portugal. During her twenties hitching enabled her
to travel extensively in Europe and since then she has journeyed more widely working as an academic. She
enjoys travelling on holiday and the Greek islands have proved to be one of her favourite locations.
