Description
Detective Sergeant R.J. Pettibone is working sex crimes in Galveston, Texas when the savaged bodies of
excoriated women begin to appear on its island shores. Dead women are not new. The oldest city in Texas
has a reputation that pulls in horny sailors and randy roustabouts competing with the daily assortment of low
lives that flock to the island's 21 miles of piled up sand eight months a year hoping to get lucky. The island’s
seamy underworld offers them plenty of seductive pleasures in clip joints and back room steam and creams
that are quietly tolerated on the island. Sometimes it isn't enough. Sometimes, the quirky cast of colorful
creeps ends of hurting each other. Only a thin line divides crime and passion.La petite morte! Pettibone’s job
is to bring them to justice. Our story begins on a late fall Monday in the turbulent Seventies when Pettibone
is preparing for the felony trials of "Dog Man Paul" and "Horsewoman", a pair of totally unrestrained animal
lovers who passionately shared themselves with dumb beasts at separate locations on the same day. It is
nothing unusual on "The Island," where murder and mayhem have enthralled mainland visitors since pirate
Jean Lafitte settled there. Detective Sergeant Roscoe “R.J.” Pettibone is half of the sex crimes unit at the
oldest municipal police department in Texas. He’s been working alone since his partner Norma Jean “Brittle
Dick” Glasscock was taken out by a beefy creep named Leather Boy in the Fruit Jar Cafe’. Soon after he
discovered his 90-pound transvestite lover was seeing someone else Leather Boy broke Norma Jean’s jaw
with his pool cue for interfering. Their encounters set the early tone for this incredible story. Our unlikely
murderer lives where the island’s well-to-do build grand new homes on the little bays and inlets marking the
island. His name is Freddie Farr. He is a fast talking, high rolling political policeman who cleverly climbed
the hierarchy of public safety like a monkey goes up a coconut tree. He was also a careful murderer who
learned his gruesome craft cruelly fishing for dogs with the Mexican gang-bangers of his youth. They cast
their stolen surf rods at the shoaling places around slop chute dumpsters and oyster shell parking lots in the
Jungle where garbage piles up in stinking mounds. The Mexicans hunt the dogs to make their unique vests
and hat bands. It is a one-time macho thing for gang supplicants. Freddie makes it his secret vocation. For
him it’s the best kind of fishing, especially when trolling for girls. After their cruel capture, Freddie likes to
make them suffer, watch them slowly die. He can smell their fear; taste it in their coppery blood. It makes
him feel powerful; like God but it is was never enough. Freddie will terrify you. The heroine of Dogfishing
is a feisty Texas girl with high ambitions. Houston Channel 13’s dazzling Miria Gutentite is a fresh faced
reporter of solid German stock common around her Central Texas home. The audience learns early she had
already exposed the dog fishing ring in a gruesomely popular television expose’. What she doesn't know is it
is only the beginning of her story. At the end she will never look upon Galveston Island again with such a
jaundiced eye, she will be too afraid. Soon joining the cast is Madam Palm, the acerbic voodoo priestess
with the All Seeing Eye blinking blue neon sign in her temple window. The audience will discover Pettibone
is sure she has mystical powers. Madam Palm is a huge lady of high intelligence and stately charm who
happens to be the island’s resident practitioner of voodoo and other black arts. A.K.A. Flora Mae
Washington, B/F, 61, of Homma, Louisiana, Madam Palm is given to wearing gaudy turbans and moo-moos
covered with tropical fruit and shrieking birds with big beaks. Her ensembles offer beads, waxed fruit, allseeing
eyes, and an occasional vegetable with powers beyond what most mortals understand. The audience
will visit her often.
