Dion Charles earned his place in
Wanderers’ record books with a
priceless winner at the Kassam
Stadium.
Charles pounced just seven
minutes in to drill home his 20th
goal of the season for the Whites.
And as well as earning Ian Evatt’s
men a second successive away
win to keep their play-off push
on course, the Northern Ireland
international also became the first
Wanderers player to reach the 20-
goal mark since 2000/01.
Charles, who has also scored twice
this season for Northern Ireland,
bridged a 22-year gap since
Michael Ricketts last reached the
landmark on his way to 24 goals in
the season.
With Wanderers’ re-shuffled
defence – which included MJ
Williams in a starring role as a
stand-in central defender on his
first league start since December
– going on to keep a 20th clean
sheet of the season, the Whites
dug in to extend their unbeaten
league run to four games.
“Great credit to Dion. I had belief
that he would do it and it’s great
to do it with five games left,” said
Evatt.
“The players gave it their absolute
everything and I’m really proud of
how they battled.”
