Welcome to Zuudee BYD Titanium!

Titanium is widely used in sea-related industries due to its exceptional resistance

to corrosion and erosion in saltwater environments. This makes it an ideal material

for applications that require durability and reliability in harsh ocean conditions.

One of the most common applications of titanium in sea-related industries is for

marine hardware, such as propeller shafts, marine exhaust systems, and boat

fittings. These components are exposed to constant exposure to saltwater, which

can quickly corrode and degrade traditional materials. However, titanium's

corrosion resistance ensures that these components can withstand the harsh

marine environment and provide reliable performance for years to come.

Another important application of titanium in sea-related industries is in offshore

oil and gas exploration and production. Titanium is used in various components,

such as pipes, valves, and heat exchangers, due to its ability to resist corrosion

caused by seawater and corrosive chemicals. This helps to ensure the safety and

reliability of offshore drilling and production equipment.

In addition to these applications, titanium is also used in seawater desalination

plants, underwater mining equipment, and other sea-related applications where

corrosion resistance and durability are essential.

At ZUUDEE, we specialize in providing high-quality titanium products for searelated

industries. Our products are designed and manufactured to meet the

specific needs of our customers in these industries, ensuring reliable performance

and long-term durability in harsh marine environments.

Why are marine engineers turning to titanium for corrosion resistance?

subseatitanium.com

Titanium: The ultimate choice for marine service

NATURAL IMMUNITIES AND RESISTANCES TO SEAWATER

Titanium’s remarkable ability to resist corrosion and erosion in seawater is due

to its unique protective oxide film, which forms spontaneously in the presence

of even trace amounts of oxygen. If scratched or damaged, the highly

adherent film instantly heals itself.

Seawater corrosion immunity: Titanium is immune to corrosive attack in

all natural and harsh waters, including sea, polluted, brackish, fresh and high

purity waters, to 600 o F. Sulfides, sulfates, carbonates, and chlorides do not

affect it.

Seawater erosion resistance: Titanium naturally resists erosion by high

velocity seawater, up to 120’/sec, in the absence of suspended solids. Under

sand-laden seawater conditions, which are extremely detrimental to copper

and aluminum based alloys, flow rates can be as high as 15’/sec.

MIC immunity: There has never been a reported case of microbiologically

influenced attack on titanium, which makes it unique among common

engineering metals.

Biofouling: Where copper-nickel alloy life expectancies are less than

acceptable due to biofouling, titanium’s oxide film is uncompromised by

marine deposits. Biofouling can occur but is effectively controlled by high

water velocities, or by chlorination, sponge ball cleaning, ultraviolet radiation

or ozone generation.

Crevice corrosion & pitting immunity: At temperatures less than 180 o F

(82 o C) crevice corrosion and pitting are totally absent, even if marine deposits

form.

SCC & corrosion fatigue resistance: In all seawater services, commercially

pure titanium is essentially immune to stress corrosion cracking and does not

suffer significant loss of fatigue properties.

Galvanic corrosion: Titanium is not subject to galvanic corrosion in seawater,

but may accelerate corrosion of the other member of the galvanic couple.

Non-toxic, non-pyrophoric: Titanium does not display any toxicity toward

marine organisms or mammals and tolerates extreme temperatures (1832 o F,

1000 o C).

Hydrogen uptake: The oxide film is an excellent barrier to hydrogen gas

intrusion.

TYPICAL ALLOYS FOR MARINE SERVICE

With the wide selection of titanium alloys available, optimum choice for a given

marine application is almost always possible. Selection for is governed by

strength and formability properties, corrosion resistance, or both. The most

common grades for salt water service are Grades 1, 2, 7, 11, 12, 16 and 17,

with Grade 2 the most widely used. There are also a variety of other grades

for various marine applications.

UNIQUE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES

Strong: Titanium has a significantly higher yield strength and

strength-to-weight ratio than copper nickel alloys or stainless steels.

Light weight: Titanium is half the density of copper nickel alloys

and 55-57% that of stainless steels. This accounts for a minimum

50% weight savings in service water piping throughout the ship.

Flexible: Titanium’s low modulus plus its high density make it

highly shock resistant.

High operational thermal conductivity: Thermal conductivity

for titanium is up to 30% higher than stainless steels. Although

thermal conductivity is lower than in copper-nickel, titanium’s

reduced wall thickness and lack of biofouling allows titanium heat

exchangers to perform as efficiently, or even more efficiently, than

those of copper-nickel.

Non-magnetic: Titanium is ideal for use in applications sensitive

to interference, such as housings for electronic equipment.

Easy to fabricate: Titanium plate, sheet, pipe and tubing are

readily cut, bent and drilled in shipyard on on-ship environments,

using the same equipment and techniques used for stainless

steels and nickel base alloys. Tungsten Inert Gas welding can

be performed without a vacuum and GMA, plasma resistance,

friction, electron beam, laser and pressure welding are also used.

CASE STUDY:

DEEPWATER TETHER CLAMP

The titanium clamps were designed to

tether two control umbilicals that run

from subsea wellheads to a surface FPSO

in approximately 3,000m of water, a

particularly challenging requirement as

the diameter of the subsea umbilical will

change over time during and post

installation. An innovative, compliant

clamp solution was therefore developed

using titanium rods as the tension

mechanism in order to reliably secure the

control umbilicals for at least 20 years.

Deep sea pressure-resistant shell and deep sea electronic compartment

subseatitanium.com

The titanium underwater pressure shell is an early self-developed product of

zuudee.

It has a history of more than 10 years. The initial product is a simple cylindrical

pressure shell design and processing, which is applied to our company's own

Shallow sea marine engineering projects. Later, as the business of zuudee's

marine engineering projects increased, and the launch of our company's selfdeveloped

products, the demand for pressure-resistant shells and the

amount of processing continued to increase.

Customers for marine scientific investigations also

ordered deep-sea durable shells with Zuudee. Our

company has formed a one-stop service for

pressure shell material selection, structural design,

force analysis, processing and manufacturing,

assembly, and pressure testing.

The structural form of the pressure shell is also

increasing, from the initial cylindrical

pressure shell, the hemispherical spherical cover

plus the circular pressure shell, the spherical

pressure ball, and the rectangular underwater shell

suitable for shallow water applications

or oil-filled structures. The cabin, to the irregular

shape required by the customer, even the

underwater pressure-resistant hull structure, and

the deep-sea conical terminal structure. The

pressure-resistant chamber can be in the form of a

dry chamber according to customer requirements,

or vacuumized, or an oil-filled internal and external

pressure balance structure.

Temperature & Pressure Recorder with Inductive Modem

Zuudee

The recorder is a high-accuracy temperature (pressure optional) recorder with built-in Inductive Modem. The

modem provides reliable, low-cost, real-time data transmission for up to 100 sensors — using a single, plasticcoated,

steel mooring wire. The sensors clamp anywhere along the inherently rugged mooring wire; expensive

and potentially unreliable multiconductor cables are not required.

The sensor moorings are easily reconfigured to meet changing deployment scenarios.

Because sensor positions can be altered (or sensors added/deleted) by sliding and re-clamping

sensors on the wire, there is no need to design and purchase a new cable with different

breakout locations. The systems permit data telemetry from sensors located anywhere

along the mooring wire, making them far more efficient and flexible than acoustic

modem types that place serious demands on battery capacity and return data from a single

underwater position only. At the surface (typically in a buoy), a Surface Inductive Modem

(SIM) completes the link between the sensors and a computer or data logger. Data from

the sensor string can be stored and transmitted via satellite link, cell phone, or radio

telemetry. As insurance against real-time data loss, the sensor simultaneously stores data in its

non-volatile memory.

The thermistor, has a long history of exceptional accuracy and stability; drift is typically

less than 0.002 °C/year. Two thermistor configurations are offered: thermistor embedded in

titanium end cap (25.0-second time constant) for rugged conditions; or external thermistor

in pressure-protected sheath (0.5-second time constant) for fast sampling.

www.subseatitanium.com

Email:info@bydtitanium.com

COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERFACING

The bottom of the insulated mooring wire is grounded to seawater, typically via a padeye swaged to its steel core; a

padeye at the top completes a conductive loop through the water. A coupling transformer — similar to the one in the

sensor but clamped to the mooring cable just under the buoy — connects to the SIM (SIM and transformer available

separately). Communication with the SIM is full-duplex RS-232C or half-duplex RS-485.

subseatitanium.com

Each sensor has a programmable address. Upon receipt of a wake-up command, the SIM sends a tone for 2 seconds, waking all sensors

on the cable. When a sensor receives a command, it replies and then returns to listening.

DATA STORAGE AND UPLOAD, AND BATTERY ENDURANCE

The sensor has a 4 Mbyte non-volatile FLASH memory. Temperature and time are always stored (total of 7 bytes/sample); pressure

adds 2 bytes/sample. Data extraction can be done via the internal connector. Binary upload capability provides fast upload of large data sets.

CONFIGURATION

A standard sensor is supplied with titanium housing for depths to 600 meters, internal thermistor, and wire guide and clamp.

Options include:

• External thermistor in pressure-protected sheath

• Titanium housing for depths to 10,500 meters

• Strain gauge pressure sensor - available in eight pressure ranges, to a maximum depth of 7000 meters

• Net fender / fairing - conical ends are shaped to shed fishing lines and nets.

Titanium plug-and-socket component for protecting deep-sea cables

subseatitanium.com

It relates to the field of deep-sea

operations technology, and

particularly relates to a titanium

plug-and-socket component for

protecting deep-sea cables.

SUBSEATITANIUM.COM

info@bydtitanium.com

Due to the high pressure in the deep sea, deep sea

equipment generally needs to withstand the high

pressure and its fluctuation. Moreover, multiple

sophisticated detection devices are typically

installed on the deep sea equipment, and these

detection devices need to be connected through

cables to ensure their normal detection and data

transmission.

In actual assembly, different devices need to be

connected through cables. The conventional

connection method is to fix the cables into circular

sleeves on different devices, and finally connect and

fasten the sleeves on each device so that the cables

between devices are protected by the sleeves.

However, under the great pressure fluctuation and

impact at the seabed, it is prone to cause twisting

between the sleeves, resulting in the twisting of

the cables inside the sleeves, causing cable breakage

problems and affecting the smooth progress of

deep sea operations, as well as causing large

operation and maintenance costs.

Zuudee has invented a titanium plug-and-socket component for protecting deep-sea cables. The socket component

includes an upper support and a lower support that correspond to each other with a hollow passage, and

symmetrically arranged docking positioning structures that are identical in structure on the upper and lower supports.

The outer surfaces of the upper and lower supports are covered with positioning and fastening components that are

cooperatively engaged with the docking positioning structures and maintain the relative positioning of the two

supports.

The titanium plug-and-socket component achieves a secure joint between the upper and lower supports by employing

the docking positioning structures and positioning and fastening components, which limit the twisting of the two

supports under the influence of high deep-sea pressure and improve the stability of cable operations during deep-sea

operations. The joint also facilitates the rapid inspection or replacement of cables or components of equipment by

disassembling the upper and lower supports, thereby improving the convenience of subsequent operations and

significantly reducing operating costs.

Zuudee BYD Titanium Sealed device for deep sea exploration

subseatitanium.com

During deep sea exploration,

electronic instruments are

necessary, but these instruments

cannot function in the deep sea. A

sealed device is required to protect

the detection instruments from

corrosion caused by seawater.

The sealed device for deep sea exploration includes

a sealed cylinder. The first sealing cover is fixedly

connected to one end port of the sealed cylinder,

and the second sealing cover is fixedly connected to

the other end port. The end portions of the first

sealing cover and the sealed cylinder in contact with

each other are both provided with semi-circular

grooves, and annular sealing strips are arranged

inside the grooves. The two narrower end faces of

the annular sealing strip are both semi-circular in

shape.

The first sealing cover and the sealed cylinder are

fixedly connected by multiple first bolts. The center

of the second sealing cover is provided with a

threaded hole, and a threaded pipe is threadedly

connected to the threaded hole. The surface of the

second sealing cover in contact with the sealed

cylinder is provided with a sealing groove, and a

sealing ring is fixedly attached to the surface, which

matches the sealing groove. The second sealing

cover and the sealed cylinder are fixedly connected

by multiple second bolts.

FACT (Field Assembled Cable Termination) is a

special technology for underwater cable

terminations. Field assembled cable terminations

are widely used in subsea oil and gas exploration

and subsea monitoring networks. The structures at

both ends are in an independent sealed and

insulated state, and one side of the partition

section can also be directly installed on a sealed air

pressure-resistant cabin or a sealed cabin filled with

insulating oil. The partition section adopts a

modular design to ensure that it can adapt to

different cable structures and conductor core

counts.

SUBSEATITANIUM.COM

info@bydtitanium.com

Zuudee BYD's FACT product is specially designed for

the flying wires in subsea oil exploitation. Generally,

one end is connected to the subsea oil-filled flying

wires, and the other end is connected to a solid

cable or a subsea distribution compartment.

Common specifications include 4-core electrical

conductors, 7-core electrical conductors, and 4-core

optical fibers.

Regular FACT titanium components are assembled

and tested at our factory. It can be quickly

assembled and packaged on site, which significantly

reduces the dependence on the outside world and

saves time.

Zuudee BYD Titanium for offshore oil and gas drilling

subseatitanium.com

Titanium is used in the offshore oil drilling

industry for various purposes due to its

exceptional strength, corrosion resistance,

and lightweight. One of the main uses of

titanium in this industry is for

manufacturing drilling equipment,

including drill bits, casing, and wellheads.

Drill bits made of titanium are much more durable

and resistant to wear and tear than traditional

steel drill bits, which can be essential when drilling

through tough rock formations.

SUBSEATITANIUM.COM

info@bydtitanium.com

Titanium is also used to make casing and wellheads,

which provide structural support to the well and

prevent leaks.

Another common use of titanium in the offshore

oil drilling industry is for manufacturing pipes and

tubing used in subsea operations. These pipes must

withstand high pressure and corrosive seawater,

and titanium's resistance to corrosion makes it an

ideal material for these applications.

Titanium is used in the construction of offshore

platforms, which must withstand harsh marine

environments. Titanium's high strength-to-weight

ratio makes it a lightweight but strong material for

use in these structures.

Sealing: The Series Titanium might be the best sealed subsea connector on the market. All critical interfaces, including

bulkhead seals, glass-to-metal insert seals, mating interface bore seals, and face seals are fully redundant ensuring 10K PSI

protection, even in the event of a single-seal failure.

Mating: Zuudee utilizes a modified UNC (coarse) mating interface with added clearance to reduce bio-fouling and facilitate

rapid-advance mating. The marine bronze engaging nut on the plug is equipped with wrench flats as well as knurling and

is less susceptible to galling than standard steel engaging nuts. Polarized keys and keyways prevent both thread damage

and mismating.

Ease-of-Use: Multiple PBOF backshell indexing points, indexable flange FCRs, full-mate inspection ports, retractable engaging

nuts, and other features make it the most user-friendly subsea connector on the market.
