Description
During the Roman occupation, Donatism was more encompassing than any other movement ever was in
North Africa. It was a reforming Christian revolution aimed at cleansing Christianity of the Catholic Church.
This popular movement called for justice and equality among the Romans and the indigenous Imazighen. It
also called for independence and liberalisation to the Imazighen after they had become wretched labourers,
working in their lands for the Romans who had fined them and looted their wealth.Donatism made the
population of Africa, Numidia and Mauritania come together under the leadership of Donatus. He thrived in
his early life and acquired all qualities that a leader needed to oppose the Catholic Church; armed with
knowledge and supported by bishops.
