FROM THE INTERIM VICE CHANCELLOR Dear Colleagues and extended UIC family, Student Affairs operations emerged from pandemic restrictions over the past year. Meeting in person, student organizations reuniting, and full Student Centers were sights for sore eyes! While still masking where needed, Student Affairs was back in action in 2021-2022. Lessons learned from pandemic operations were noted, we gained technical skills in streaming events and other remote operations, and Student Affairs continued working with administrative services on campus pandemic mitigation plans. Student Affairs has emerged stronger from the pandemic. More recently, beloved Student Affairs leader J. Rex Tolliver left UIC when he accepted a position as Vice President for Student Affairs and Academic Support at the University of South Carolina. His infectious laugh and boundless energy will be missed. His many contributions to UIC will remain his legacy here such as the first University of Illinois system public -private partnership building, the Academic and Residential Center (ARC). Linda Deanna, our long serving Dean of Students, was another departure in this past year for a well-deserved retirement. We thank Rex and Linda for their work and wish them well. 5 2022 ANNUAL REPORT For many years, I have served as a Registrar at UIC, and I was most recently overseeing admissions, recruitment, and outreach in addition to the Registrar’s Office. Since October of 2022, I have been honored to serve as the Interim Vice Chancellor and Vice Provost for Student Affairs. During the past several months, I have seen the extensive reach and positive impact Student Affairs operations have on the UIC student body. Our 2022 Annual Report outlines what principles guide our work, the successes of the departments within Student Affairs, and other highlights of the past year. We also want to acknowledge the many supporters who have funded innovative operations such as the pop-up pantry, student internships, and other student engagements. Without the continued supports of our donors our reach would be far more limited. We’re looking forward to another year of growth and exciting opportunities for students. Kind regards, Robert R.
