Description
Super Summit Stories is an anthology composed of original stories written by 2022-23 third
graders at Summit School in Winston Salem, N.C., during a 6-week writing residence (1 day/week)
with children's author and educator Melissa Rooney. Each story is accompanied by an illustration
created by that story's author during their art classes with Summit School Art teacher, Jennifer
Sparnicht. The book substantiates the sometimes hesitant, often quirky, but always beautiful inner
workings of a third-grade mind, demonstrating the students' vast range of interests, motivations,
unique personalities and, no doubt, television and internet viewing experiences. Your own
elementary student will appreciate these stories, because they were written by their peers, who
think more like them than you do.
