Description
Growing up in Pakistan, I became accustomed to many things. Once such
was the sheer lack of female representation in the public sphere. Like
many others, I did not question why I personally did not know of any
women in business, Yet, years of study in Political Science and Human
Rights caused me to question many realities which I had simply accepted
up until now. Despite making up about half of the total population, only
1% of women in Pakistan are registered as entrepreneurs. Over the past
several years, I have spent countless hours contemplating the reason
behind this grave inequality in a country that is now almost 75 years
old. It is in conclusion to this thought that I sat down with 35
businesswomen and entrepreneurs from Pakistan. This book compiles my
conversations with these exceptional women who have defied many odds to
be where they are today. I hope that this book will not only inspire an
incoming generation of female entrepreneurs in the country but also
allow policymakers to reflect upon the existing infrastructure in order
to best support the courageous women of Pakistan.
