[R.E.A.D] Nyerere and Africa: End of an Era Book PDF EPUB
Description
This is the fifth edition of Nyerere and Africa: End of an Era. It is a comprehensive survey of Africa
since the sixties, covering some of the major events which took place on the continent and in
which President Julius Nyerere of Tanzania played a major role. They include the Congo crisis and
the secession of Katanga province and Lumumba's assassination where Tanzania under Nyerere
supported Lumumba's followers; the secession of Eastern Nigeria as the independent republic of
Biafra and the Nigerian civil war during which Tanzania under the leadership of Nyerere became
the first country to recognise the secesionist region as an independent state; the Zanzibar
revolution and unification of Tanganyika and Zanzibar to form Tanzania under the leadership of
Nyerere; and liberation struggle in the countries of southern Africa in which Nyerere played a
major role. The work also looks at attempts to unite Africa and the different approaches Nyerere
and Ghana's president, Kwame Nkrumah, took to achieve the goal. It also examines Nyerere's role
as a major Third World leader.
