WELCOME
PARENTS, GUESTS, AND MUSIC EDUCATORS
On behalf of the TMEA Board of Directors and Conference Planning
Committee, we welcome you to the 2023 Tennessee Music Education
Association All-State Ensembles concerts. Over the past three days,
these outstanding students have been rehearsing with nationally
renowned conductors to present complex yet beautiful music
representing a variety of genres, composers, and styles. The students
featured in these concerts did not begin their All-State journey just this
week. Most of these students began preparing for auditions in August
of 2022 for their regional association honors ensembles. Because of
their hard work, perseverance, and talent, these students were selected
out of thousands of their peers to perform in these All-State concerts. They have rehearsed and
practiced for years to get to this place in their musical journeys. The teachers and parents of these
students are most aware that these students excel in more than just music; most of these students
are strong academically, athletically, and are leaders within their schools.
To be certain, these students did not achieve this high honor without the instruction of their
exceptional directors and music teachers as well as the unflappable support of their family and
friends. To all the family members of these students, we extend our most sincere appreciation for
all you have done to encourage your child’s musical pursuits. We also thank the numerous music
teachers for nurturing and investing in their music students from elementary through high school.
There is no way to measure the impact you have had and will continue to have on their lives. To the
school administrators who provide a supportive environment and the essential resources needed
for music to thrive in your schools, we thank you for valuing the importance of music in our schools.
To the 2023 Tennessee Music Education Association All-State Ensemble Members:
Congratulations on your high achievement of earning the distinction of an All-State musician.
I am certain this All-State experience will reside in your memory for the rest of your lives and
that when you reflect on this experience, you will fondly remember new friends you made as
well as the advanced musical knowledge and skills you gained. After your All-State concert,
you will take with you a truly remarkable aesthetic experience that came from an outstanding
performance with your peers representing music programs from across the state. Be sure to
show your sincere appreciation to your family members, friends, and directors who helped you
reach this musical accomplishment. Congratulations once again, All-State musicians, on your
present and future achievements.
