David Kim Whittaker (b. 1964)Most of David Kim Whittaker’s paintings arebased upon a metaphysical interpretationof the human head. These portrait portals,are often ambiguous, with the aim ofrepresenting the totality of the humancondition - both the universal and theempathetic alongside personal experience.The works often juggle dual states of innerand outer calm and conflict, offering a glimpseof simultaneous strength and fragility,conscious and subconscious, masculine andfeminine. The paintings express Whittaker’sconstant focus on an attempt to expresssomething far greater than oneself. Recentworks depict the artists deep sensitivityand increasing unease when confrontedwith the compounding global tensions ofthis particlar moment. A dual reflection ofhope and warning stares back at us fromthe frame.Whittaker is a British artist born inCornwall where they still reside.Exhibitions have been held internationally,notably including a major solo exhibitionat the prestigious Fondazione Mudima inMilan in 2017. Works are in numerousmuseum collections, art foundations andinternational private collections.
