Decision day demo: youth centre
campaigners at Parliament and Town Hall
Campaigners
will gather for a
demonstration outside
Redbridge Town Hall
this month as they
await the council’s
decision on the
future of Wanstead
Youth Centre. The
Elmcroft Avenue
venue is under threat
of closure following
claims over £2.4m
of refurbishments
are needed to make it fit for purpose. “The
cabinet meeting on 14 September is when the
decision about the future of the youth centre
will be made. We will be gathering outside
from 6.30pm,” said a spokesperson for the Save
Our Wanstead Youth Centre campaign, which
is calling for a 12-month moratorium to allow
“The centre is used daily by multiple groups,
from the youngest to the oldest members of
the community. It is the only remaining youth
centre of its kind in the borough.” Last month,
campaigners also took their message to
Margaret Centre
petition
Campaigners have
launched a petition
to save the Margaret
Centre at Whipps
Cross Hospital. “This
is a specialist end-oflife
and palliative care
unit. In the current
plans for the new
hospital, this awardwinning
centre will
not exist. We want
the centre to be
provided in a new
purpose-designed
building close to the
hospital. This option
should be included
in the forthcoming
consultation,” said
an Action4Whipps
spokesperson. Visit
