The City of Lucedale and <strong>George</strong> <strong>County</strong> love the arts. The Lucedale Fine<br />
Arts Club has been a strong promoter of arts and crafts for a half-century. The<br />
Art Committee of the <strong>George</strong> <strong>County</strong> Chamber of Commerce has been very<br />
active. They produced the art for the Lucedale Mural, the BHGRE Mural,<br />
and the new Lucedale Welcome Sign.<br />
Gingham Tree Arts & Crafts Festival<br />
For 51 years, the Gingham Tree Festival has been promoting<br />
arts and crafts. Pains are taken to ensure that all the arts &<br />
crafts sold at the Festival are original. Any non-original art<br />
purveyors will have their wares confiscated and will be barred<br />
from attending the next festival. The festival also selects a<br />
piece of historical art every year which is then sold as prints.<br />
Lucedale Mural<br />
South side of Main St./Hwy 198 downtown Lucedale.<br />
Each letter in the Lucedale Mural, represents different<br />
aspects of <strong>George</strong> <strong>County</strong>: agriculture, businesses, churches,<br />
festivals, historic landmarks, nature, and schools. Created<br />
by The Art Committee of the <strong>George</strong> <strong>County</strong> Chamber<br />
of Commerce, the artists were: Bryan Bennett, Jaron<br />
Churchwell, Christy Cooley, Jacob Havard, Mallory Hoerner,<br />
Tracy Mardis, Kriss Mizelle, Dee Turner, and Kelly<br />
Wilkerson.<br />

The Wood Sculpture by Dayton Scoggins was carved with a chainsaw from a stump left over from a beloved tree that had to be cut<br />
down . Story Time was sculpted by Jim Corley and it was based on his grandmother and her grandchild. School children pulled the<br />
sculpture to the Library when it was first installed.. City Park’s Amphitheater, a Jim Corley design, is covered with tiles painted by<br />
school children. The Children’s Sundial, an analemmatic dial, created by JimCorley is in City Park. The Veteran’s Memorial by Jim<br />
Corley has been engineered to direct sunlight on the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month on the seal in front of the sculpture,<br />
amazing art and enineering.<br />
